That's a lot of miles, very nice. I just got back from my 350 mile biking trip through Central Florida. Thanks for sharing, subbed.

Wow! Sounds like an epic route. I hope to try a few sections next summer. I had a friend (Rob) who finished the TATR a couple times. Makes me think the race could benefit from some trail clearing work. I’m game. Anyhow, thanks for the video and story!

Yea it’s a pretty crazy route but I’d recommend it for the adventure and there is some cool riding . The snowmobile clubs do clear up the trails sometimes but many could have used some more. I’ve only ridden the course once so maybe it was an outlier. Hopefully you get out there for it!

Great recap! I finished a little over a day behind you. It was also my first bikepacking race. A truly amazing experience!

Great video, thanks man! I’m planning on riding this at the grand depart this year, this has a ton of helpful info. Wish there were better food options for resupply but Stewart’s/gas stations will have to do 🤪

Glad it was helpful! Yeah, Im not sure how familiar you are with the ADKs but food options are certainly limited so get used to gas station pizza haha. Enjoy the ride, I bet it will be another great GD this September.

Just watched your video for the 2nd time. I plan to attempt the ride this tear. My plan is not to ride at night so I am not really racing but hope to finish and hope to do it in 10 days, If I could bother you with some questions I would appreciate it. I have 38 mm tires on my bike. Do you think that works? Thank you, Stuart

Hey Stuart, thanks for checking it out I’m glad it’s been helpful! I think you’ll enjoy the course more doing that way, it goes through a lot of great areas and being able to see it all vs just what your headlamp shines on really makes a difference. There is some very rugged trail along the route so whatever tire size you choose, along with bike choice will be a trade off since there is also considerable amount of road and gravel. If your ok with needing to walk portions due to tire width (and I’m assuming drop bar gravel bike) then you’ll enjoy faster speeds on the smoother sections. Wider 2.0-2.5” tires and front suspension will allow you to ride more miles in general but be slower on the roads. I think it comes down to what your comfortable with and what your strengths on the bike are but you could definitely get it done with 38s.

I’m interested in this ride for 2023. Is it gravel bike appropriate or better w a mtb?
@RyanSarka

Awesome! I wouldn’t use a gravel bike personally. There are some extremely rugged sections. Although it would gain you some speed on the pavement and dirt roads I think it would be slower overall. I do know some people have ridden them on course though.

Thanks! I rode a Salsa Timberjack. It was a solid bike for this ride, I'm very happy I had front suspension and is a fun bike for general riding too. I also have a video with all the gear and more bike details if your interested in that: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6PCZ41rm75sjZY
