Thanks for sharing ,& the inspiration ,I'm 60 now & in the past I've pushed too hard & have actually ripped a muscle & vien from servier cramp ,I've since learnt to spin more & I'll take the advice of a chap who was 78 doing it & that was to walk the hard climbs & just enjoy it .

That's good advice, Kevin. I like to push the pace now and again (relatively speaking!) but definitely not on every ride these days - very different to 30 years ago when everything was full gas all the time. You live and learn and slow down to enjoy things more I think. Happy cycling!

The PBW is brutal, there is no doubt about it. Probably because it was based on a horse ride by Mary Townley. Thanks for sharing.

Enjoyed this journey. I bought a guidebook to the PBW in 2004 but never got around to trying it because of the racing calendar. I thought I recognised a few Widdop/Gorple sections of the PBW/Towneley Loop. You had some really nice shooting ideas with the self-filmed ride-pasts & double-speed etc.

Thanks. Yes, enjoyed that section up out of Hebden towards Widdop.

It's great to see you on the Pennine Way. I was brought up in Skipton so this is very much my neck of the woods. I live out in Thailand now and make videos cycling over here but obviously with the north of England. Great ride and I look forward to future adventures. JP the old guy

Thanks, JP! Small world, I actually went to school in Bingley. Thanks for the comments and look forward to watching some of your videos from over there in Thailand.

Small world indeed. My mum was a teacher and did her teacher training at Bingley college in the 70s! Ride safe. JP

Would love to see you strip the weight. Start with just ul tent, mattress, sleeping bag and add e.g. small stove set, tea + coffee bags, 1 spare set of clothes, tie a mug and a rain jacket to your saddle dees. Pilgrims walked huge distances with just a stick and an oiled cloth for shelter. Makes ya think 🤔. Thoroughly enjoying your films, off now to watch your NC500 👍🏻😁

I am planning to ride this in June this year. Which route did you take and roughly what was your daily mileage like?
@onemorecyclist
@onemorecyclist Жыл бұрын
Thanks for the comment. I used the Komoot route by Katherine Moore. Struggling to remember what the daily miles were but they were fairly low, 30-35 miles maybe. Enjoy the planning and hope you have a good trip in June!

@@onemorecyclist great thanks for the reply. Great found the route, looks reasonable. Did you struggle with covering that mileage per day, as l know there are sections where you have to get off and push.
@onemorecyclist
@onemorecyclist Жыл бұрын
There were definitely a few sections where I started questioning my life choices:). It was easy enough to cover that mileage in a full day, although the miles weren’t easy, if that makes sense (at least they weren’t for me etc.). Lots and lots (and lots) of gates too on this route.
@stuartdavidson6113

@@onemorecyclist we are planning to cover about 40-50 miles a day. So just thought l would ask. There are 4 of us, so gates are going to be shared. Planning to be out for 6-8 hours a day on the ride, so should be enough time to cover. We’re there any sections of the route that you had to turn back etc?
@onemorecyclist
@onemorecyclist Жыл бұрын
@@stuartdavidson6113 Not that I remember. An hour long standoff with a herd of cows near Saddleworth and a short (and very steep) overgrown track climbing up out of Hebden Bridge (a lot of pushing) were probably the nearest I came to not getting through a section; otherwise all good. Enjoy it!

Never ridden one but it's on the to-do list. Met lots of e-bikers out on the Hadrian's Cycleway this year and it was great to see!

how many kg to the bags you use behind
@onemorecyclist
@onemorecyclist 3 жыл бұрын
Not too heavy, maybe 2-3 kilos each. Sleeping bag and tent in one side and sleeping mat, stove/cook set and food in the other. If I did the route again I'd probably invest in a large rear bike packing seat-post bag.
