Looks like a beautiful ride. I'd love to make it across the pond to ride and camp in your country but, until then, I'll be living vicariously through you and other KZbinrs. :) A tip, and I've been tarp camping here in the US since 2008, I went back and looked at your tarp pitch and it was indeed pretty loose. It needs to be tight in all directions to keep the noise down. A regular tent would flap if it was pitched that loosely but pitching a tent loose is hard to do by design. It's a good idea to spend a decent amount of time working out pitching a tarp in the yard or park before embarking on a journey with one. It looked to me like, based on what I could see in the last video, that the areas on either side of the tires could have stood to have their own stakes. Each line or crease that can be put in the tarp via stakes and guy wires makes its own "panel" and the more "panels" there are the better the whole thing sheds wind (normally I explain that to people with picture for an aid so I hope that made sense). To be honest, I have not tried this particular pitch yet myself but I'm keen to try. I prefer a half pyramid pitch even though it means carrying at least one pole. The book "Lightweight Backpacking and Camping" edited by Ryan Jordan has a wealth of information on the topic. As do, iirc, Mike Clellands books and of course Andrew Skurkas' writings.

in Australia we only ride when its above 35degrees when there is no alternative and its worthwhile noting that it can be 5 degrees hotter on the road. All in all a big effort Juliet

Theres a lovely tarp set up. it requires one tree, fold the tarp over on itself so it forms a triangle like a napkin. the corner gets tied to the tree and two pegs at the other two corners, if its windy tie lower around the tree or if not tie higher for more space inside, the bottom layer of the tarp is an extra ground sheet, the back wall is totally sealed off, its literally the tarp folded all the way in half giving great shelter, the ground sheet layed can be spruced up with leaves and such from around to make a natural matteress under neath that ground layer. It doesnt have to be tied up close to the tree either, the rope can extend and it will hold the same a few meters from the tree, its deffo good to carry ear plugs for wind, or a lecture on headphones can send anyone to sleep, the wind can drive us made on our bike tours sometimes for days and days, so headphones or earplugs can give a good nights rest while riding in the wind away from the madness. with the triangle set up you can get it nice and taught with the two pegs once the tree rope is established on the corner loop. peace.

@Shep Raynham I reckon I could've ridden all of that on my touring bike. FWIW I did ride the length of the Rhine this year on a Komoot route which had a lot of offroad. I am running Schwalbe Big Apples, mind. They're good enough for anything that's not massively technical. I'm not even particularly skilled off-road.

It looked like a very flappy set up when she showed it on a previous video A 3x3 DD tarp or similar could easily be made into a tarp tent shelter with a single lightweight telescopic pole or waist high piece of wood,that could be pegged down tight and still give loads of space for bike plus sleeping set up inside

I don’t think I would like a tarp either. There are so many nice and very light tents available. Sleep is everything!😂 Nice video. The scenery is beautiful. Mountain bike or gravel bike? I like flat bars for steep fast descents. They feel more stable! Okay. I’ll take the mountain bike. A nice light weight hard tail.

What helmet is this? From the looks of it, it seems to be build to prevent bees/wasps getting stuck too near to your head and stinging you. - and it looks better than when I hot-glued pieces of fly net onto the front of my old bike helmet for that purpose.

looks a really great ride! but il take a lightweight tent. Tarps are a hopeless bit of camping kit, fun to play with in the woods where trees act as tent poles, but remember that water flows so if you are on the ground under one and it rains you will get wet anyway. Mostly in the UK there are no trees, we chopped them all down to make ships, farms and cities or they are on private land.

Well young lady I am wondering what type of tarp tent did you have was it made out of dyneema because that is extremely crinkly and loud with wind but yet it is 100% waterproof on the outside will however allow a lot of condensation on the inside so let me know which one you have curiosity let's kill the cat in this case we can't because you got too many lives ahead of you which is a good thing love the video as always

Why a tarp? Plenty of lightweight tents about. Bashas are ok in nice German pine forests where they can be perfectly strung out.... but Welsh hillsides....🤣😂🤣

I think you should invest in a proper sleeping bag since you're always cold. The likes of Western Mountaineering are expensive but warm, lightweight and pack small, highly recommend.
