I really had mixed feelings watching this video. I live about 20 miles from that museum (National Motorcycle Museum). I have visited it many times since it first opened. The local community really hated to see it go. The museum was the creation of the late John Parnham who founded J&P Cycles. Most of the bikes were from his personal collection. Some bikes were on loan from local owners. The museum survived for 20 years but unfortunately it was located in an out-of-the-way location in Anamosa, Iowa. His wife kept it going after John's death but it just didn't receive enough visitors to cover its operating expenses. If it had been located 30 miles south on Interstate 80 I believe it would have thrived and still be here. It was the finest motorcycle museum and had the most diverse collection that I have ever visited. Its collection has now been scattered everywhere. It will be missed.

If you visit England you should visit the Sammy Miller Museum on the south coast. It's rather small and mostly British bikes, but all the bikes are unusual and some are unique - apart from a few, all of them are working bikes. Sammy himself is still around and working on the bikes - it's your kind of place.

Great video as always! I don't have the energy to go through all comments, so I might be just repeating what someone already pointed out: There is indeed another road-legal 4-cylinder square engine bike, so the Ariel square four is not alone! Suzuki made the RG 500 Gamma in 1985 and 1986, to directly compete with the Yamaha RD 500 that came out at the same time - while the Yamaha had a V4 500, the Suzuki used the concept from their RR 500s, and made theirs a square four. I had the great pleasure of owning an RG 500 for a few years back then, and goodness what a bike it was!

I live 30 miles from the museum. I was going to go to the auction, but I changed my mind because I new I would blow a ton of money. Matt is going to love that one. Its really cool to see Sean getting into vintage bikes. The BSA would have been cool to have. The auction people and the museum screwed that up. Imagine if you were at the auction with a small budget (5 to 8 grand) hoping to get one bike. You bid on the BSA and win it... then you don't bid on anything else because you've spent most the money you brought to the auction. Then at the end when you go to get your bike you find out it's been given back to the owner. That would suck. I saw a pretty clean running BSA Lightening for 2500 on marketplace a few weeks back. That was a great deal. They're normally 5 or 6 grand.

Did you see that Ariel Square 4? Air-cooled but still cool. Only other Sq4 i know is the thanks-for-the-gas-cap-in-my-face Suzuki 500 Gamma 2-str.[@ 5 min.56seconds]. I am hyper-psychotic about cooling. I want a big radiator in front and kickass cooling of all six cyliders [z1300 Voyager(XIII)]. My brother: "oh, wow, the fairing is not connected to the handlebars!" BF: Oh wow, air shocks! Meawhile, my last bike was a GoldWing,-monster-fairing-on-board air -compressor-for-f&r shocks and pumping tires. Duh! it's got 6 cylinders! CBX [1047cc] and Laverda [748 & 906cc vs. 1286LCOOLED] only others!!!

Hun, I need to teach you how to bid. One thing is to hang back, don't pull the trigger so fast. Early on a new item. Let others think they may get it chwap. This tends to make them, set a lower price in their mind. So hang back, look mildly interested... until you aren't, and are ready to make your move.thats when, if possible, make eye contact, and smile, wink, and win. Don't be hostike, just firm and fun. Part of an auction, is in the strategy. If you are agressive, many bidders, go into war mode, which just drives up the price. And a bit of cheeky, takes the other bidder minds out of aggressive mode, with you as the enemy, and turns you into someone that could be a friend. People tend to be more willing to let a friend have the item.
