Buy a Pingel wheel chock and follow instructions. Not gonna beat this guy up, his hearts in the right place. Plus, he did an OK job. Rear racks are usually only have 10lbs. rating, so use rear foot peg mount or frame/swingarm. REMEMBER, when using chocks, all straps pull forward into the chock. Hope this helps.

Why not attach the straps lower on the shock assembly, so the shock is not involved at all when the truck hits a bump? That way you avoid the shock taking damage, while the strap should be strong enough to keep the bike pinned down, and the front tire does any flexing that is needed.

@collinmc90
@collinmc90 2 жыл бұрын
I just did this with my bike, it is SO much more secure. every bump you hit if you compress the suspension, will cause the strap to go loose for a second till the suspension can re compress. If you go off the lower part of the forks (if you can on your bike) makes it so much more rigid. I literally stood on my bike and leaned waaaaay over hopped up and down and that thing didn't move a bit!
@ZeezaAndNomadicJack
@ZeezaAndNomadicJack Жыл бұрын
By compressing the struts, you are limiting the range of travel for the motorcycle. There’s hardly any chance that the motorcycle is going to compress any more than that even on a trailer unless you’re like off-roading while you’re towing it lol hope you find that helpful.

I bought a ramp from cycle gear to compensate, but, if the ramp can handle it, I’ll take that ramp back... I have a heavy (700lbs) custom 2002 Honda VTX 1800 R, plus my own 250 (or so, Lol) bodyweight...

Why not just hook the strap hook into the square of the trailer? If you loop the strap around it, the strap on the metal is more likely to cut through the strap than the hook is to come undone.

That would work.
@georgebanker2669

If you get the tiniest bit of compression on the bike the hook can come off the metal and the bike is then able to fall over.

Trailer weights 950lbs. It's one of the smallest produced. 4x8 is the only 1 smaller. Unless talking about dinky ones with 10" tires, you don't blow down the road at 80mph with those. I've got 8'6" x 24' enclosed, now that's a huge and heavy trailer, I can haul 4 touring bikes in it, with ease.

No it is not wide enought..you need at least 6.5 feet for 2 bikes..and for touring bikes..at least 7.5 ft.. Better at 8 ft..I haul freight coast to coast I know how to haul bikes...35 yrs experience...you never want bikes touching each other. Or close to each other..12 inch gap ..minimum...

Good video and lots of great tips. 1 criticism I have is on the single strap through the rear wheel. It can still slip. If you put a loop through the wheel and then feed the other end through it, it'll tighten and can't move 👍

I have to say I don't agree with this at all. Move your straps down to the union of the front fender at the lower shock. You don't want pressure on your shocks. You want unsprung weight on those straps. Same on the rear. Go through the lower frame so the bike doesn't have any sprung weight on the straps.
