I just bought this and applied it to my year 2020 H6L in Black Lacquer. A few things I learned... do NOT handle the sticker when it's off from it's backing. Instead, cut out (around) the sticker from the backing with scissors, then offer it up to the frame in order to work out the best fit, then peel one edge back very carefully with a finger nail whilst NOT putting a finger print on the sticky edge, then apply about 1/2 inch of it in one place and then unpeel gradually until you get to the other end, whilst holding the unpeeled end against the frame, moving a finger along the part that gets stuck down, from one end to the other, along the middle of the sticker. Whilst doing this, gradually press down and feed a finger along each side of the middle to stick it down gradually and take your time, it can be done with no marks or air bubbles but takes quite a while to do. I worked this out because when I applied the first sticker I got all sorts of finger grease along the edge, you learn from experience... Also, it's 10x times more difficult to do this sticker application with a dark color frame because it shows every last little piece of dust and fingerprints etc if you get it wrong! Some of the decals (like the chain stay ones) didn't conform to the curve so I had to slit them, and some of the cut outs didn't quite line up with the parts on my frame. The head tube sticker goes on the handlebar stem, I believe! The instructions were terrible (i.e. there were none). All in all I would give the kit a 3 out of 5.

As an owner, you are able to buy carbon sets specifically for protection of the Brompton Frame. Below the Crank and below and on top of tube with the chain, which will prevent most scratches! Also below the cables on the fork (to be bolted on) and the front of the frame, with the wire holder. If wanting a little extra, leathers for the frame and the stem post, to be sown, or using Velcro. If so your bike may look as original, even after years of use, - unlike if not cared for. Finn. Denmark

Oh very nice. I used this brand and put some on my road bike, but having a brompton specific kit is really nice. I don't think you really need to cover the entire frame, I wish they had a smaller kit to cover the essential parts.....just the parts that are likely to get scratched, and definitely where the cables rub. What I like about this brand is: 1) the vinyl is quite thick...thicker than I expected. 2) the adhesive is relatively weak, it's very easy to peel it off, and it absolutely leaves zero residue when you peel it off. Other types of adhesive tape will get gummy when you remove it.

This kit looks to use a good quality wrap which is key to doing this well. 👍I have protectively wrapped my last seven bikes, sometimes shaping, cutting and fitting the pieces myself (a long job). Other times fitting them using pre-shaped kits from various manufacturers. I now prefer to use Invis kits, who are slightly more expensive than the kit shown in this video, but I find the quality of their plastic and their customer service is very good. They sell two different kits for Brompton, based upon the bikes age, and are made in the UK. When applying the wrap I prefer to apply it wet with clear baby shampoo mixed with water. In my experience the higher quality plastic films are far more forgiving of you making errors and having to remove and refit them. The cheaper plastic films, including Gorilla tape however are not.......👍

I used GM frame protectors that you cut to fit. Works wonders. But, in a few years I may remove them and get this Brompton specific one. They were very tedious to apply but they definitely work against rubbing and scratches. I believe if Brompton owners only put them on the main frame and at the cable rubbing points would be a way to keep their bromptoms looking new for years. I can't see having a Brompton that's not covered and protected. Thank you for this video!👍

When I had first bought my by then Top, Flame painted 2019 "SuperlightM6LXBrompton" during High Covid19, for the vacation money saved, I gave it a full Autopolish all over for protection! I then realized that after - two or three folds, that the Clear Tape - "Protection"🤔(sadly its only from the Brompton Factory), had nearly been worn through to the paint!!! So I immediately ordered what I could find of "Carbon Protection Plates" and a Shield for the fork, from the main suppliers of "Useful Brompton Accessories": China, Korea and Taiwan! Also some leathers, to be sown on for my frame - and stem post. It is honestly a Sad Story, that after all those years of production, that Brompton still haven't found out how to keep the frames paint looking fine, as mine, for those with a liking for a "nice looking bike"! I have latest ordered a small "P shield" for below my Cable in front, as this is now the Model closest to mine, it seems? Finn. Denmark

So I wouldn't know for what use I would have - the coming 12 gear version, which seems to be intended to replace the former 6 speed? But I could as well add a double chainwheel in front, or a lighter, 7 speed chain-wheel and single changer, as it is possible to buy from Asia, for a Brompton? Finn. Denmark

As mentioned elsewhere here, a called RideWrap make a Brompton specific version - one for each type of Brompton. Going just by conversion rates, it is over twice the price but is applied wet and comes with all the solution, squeegies etc. you need to apply it. There are some reviews on here where it is being used on mountain bikes... but it would be interesting to see if there is much difference between the two.

Good job. As always, great video. I have used helicopter tape for years to protect my bikes. About one year ago I used this particular brand of tape for my new Brompton. I sprayed some soapy water on the back of the tape and on my hands before I applied it to the bike. It allows the tape to be moved around to place it properly. I squeege out the solution along with the air bubbles. It's more work but has worked well for me.

Although I like to look after my bike, I’m not sure I’d go so far as to virtually cover it in plastic film. I do, however, stick a ~50mm length of electrical insulation tape on top of the rear of the chain stay to prevent damage from the chain when on the small cog. Seems to work well.

Try spraying the bike and the adhesive side with water mixed with a tiny bit of dishwashing soap (to make it more slippy) and some ethanol/burning spirit (to make it dry faster). Then you can put on the stickers any way you want, then shift them in place, and squeegee out the bubbles to the sides. The water will dry off, making the sticker stick.

I purchased this a while back, but wasn’t convinced of the film’s quality. So, I traced them to build a cutting template and ended up cutting my own using quality 3M car panel self-healing protection tape. Luckily, I had access to a plot cutter at work to do this. I also opted to cut my own so I can use a film that supports a wet application method, which is easier to readjust if you make a mistake.
@LLF12348 ай бұрын
How's the 3M going for you so far? I've read some places that by using water it might trap some moisture and after a few days the spots under the tape will rust. But it doesn't seem to happen to everyone, luckly most doesn't.
@KennethWuAU8 ай бұрын
@@LLF1234 My stem showed some patina after wrapping. But it quite even. I think it's more from the UV exposure from the sun. My main frame is still looking as good as new after 4-5 years of regular use.
@richardforster1239 Жыл бұрын
As others have written, put protection where the cables would touch, and I would add that protecting under the frame where the rear wheel folds in and makes contact is important too. I used helicopter tape and carefully took note of everywhere the cables touched the frame, both in a folded and unfolded position, plus where the wheel touched the underside of the top tube and the front of the bottom bracket area. But also the tiny tube at the bottom of the rear mudguard because this was very rusty on my old Brompton - that part was the hardest to apply, it would probably have been a lot easier if I had taken the wheel out and could more easily bend the mudguard to make room to get the tape in. After just over a year the tape is still there and you can only see it if you're specifically looking for it so I judge this a success. One more thing - the videos are great!

Curious how you like that Brooks saddle on that bike. I just bought a C Line "Urban" in Los Angeles. It was supposed to come with that saddle, but it arrived with the stock saddle. My honest feeling is since bike theft is an issue you have to consider in the US, I'm happy to have the stock saddle (I'm assuming it is less attractive to bike thieves)... I should say that Brompton, to their credit, offered to send me the Brooks saddle, but I told them I didn't want it and they should keep the money for themselves. As for frame protection, I put some protective tape on the spot where the cables rub on the frame, but I did that when the bike was folded, then noticed that when unfolded, that rubbing area is in a different spot. Gave this suggestion when I registered both my bikes at Brompton but I guess those suggestions end up nowhere as you don't get any reply at all. It's 50 euro for a serious amount of stress it seems. I would gladly pay 80 euro more for a bike that has these as standard or an option. Most people tend to already have damage when putting these on which is a shame in my opinion.

They are really easy to fit. I thought they would be difficult, but really simple. Thanks for the suggestion on adding to new bikes!

Why not? Do you prefer stone chips and a lot of scratches from the cables and so on?
