I love it! No suspension, no folding mechanism, relatively light weight. Perfect. I don't see US customers getting the D8, though. For $300 more, getting the Performance Line motor and higher top speed is a great deal!

Thanks for the transparency up front that this (p)review is being presented by the Tern Marketing lead. I'm currently debating whether to get the Quick Haul D8 (~$1300 out-of-pocket after my voucher) or the Rad Wagon 4 (just $300 post-tax refund voucher!) or something totally different, such as a folding model I can carry up the stairs of my apartment. At first it seemed like a no-brainer that the Rad Wagon would be a much better deal for me, but my LBS is trying to convince me that the build quality/parts/standard sizing of the Tern makes it the better choice. But a full thousand dollars better?! I'm within the poverty bracket for a single person in the U.S., and the most I've spent on a bike was $500, and I've put thousands and thousands of miles on that commuter-turned-touring bike. Getting an e-bike is a big step, not just in terms of cost, weight, and size (storing it without it immediately getting stolen is a big concern), but because I have to put down my pride/resentment of the booming e-trend that has put so many zooming motorized playthings on every trail and bike lane without most of them engaging in any physical exercise that's a hallmark of human-powered mobility. I welcome any thoughtful perspectives on the pros and cons, esp. the relative value between different makes and styles of e-bike.

I have gotten spoiled with the easy maintenance of my commuter bike with the Shimano Nexus 7 speed internal geared hub. Now that Shimano is building 5 and 7 speed hubs specifically designed for eBikes, it would be nice if a bike like this would have that option. I don't miss dinking with deraileur adjustments and maintenance.

I don't see any need for gears if you are going to carry around a traction battery. Trains don't have gears.
@johnhaide79392 жыл бұрын
@@difflocktwo This type of motor is not like a DC traction motor. It is designed for best performance in a certain rpm range. It is more efficient in that range. Also gearing takes strain off the drive train by reducing the torque and forces from the motor.
@difflocktwo2 жыл бұрын
@@johnhaide7939 Why would you use a motor that is worse than a train's? Use a motor that can handle the load conditions and skip the mechanical drivetrain all together.

We love our GSD for hauling a lot of stuff and bought the Vektron for a 2nd e-bike for it's compact size and foldability. I think the short haul will make that 2nd e-bike more affordable for a family that might be stretching the budget to go with a Vektron. I know we love having two e-bike options in our garage and also being able to ride together.

I recently bought a Quick Haul and while in general, I agree it's an excellent bike, I do have a couple nits to pick. My LBS mounted the front fender 1/16" above the tire which I hadn't noticed until I rode through some 1/8" gravel and heard it scraping the fender. When I got home I raised the fender but then the headlight hit on the front Transporteur rack above it. I had to saw the bottom 1/2 of the built-in reflector off of the headlight to make everything fit properly The rear Shortbed Tray rack had to be raised up on about 2cm of spacers so that it could move forward enough to not overhang the 4 rear posts made for storing the bike vertically. Even so, the LBS stuck some rubber pads on the rack so it wouldn't get scraped. You didn't make the Quick Haul when you introduced the Shortbed Tray but it appears to have required something of a kluge to get it to fit properly. Neither is a deal breaker but something to consider for the next version of bikes, racks, and lights.

Hey Bob! I’m sorry for your headaches The short bed tray only works sideways properly on the Quick Haul. For the front light, I’m a big fan of moving it to the handlebar if you are running the transporteur. Which shop/city did you work with?

This new bike looks great. But why is the Vektron S10 now $900 (it appears to have increased in price again to $4200 though I don’t think it’s been available anywhere in the US in many months) more than the higher end model ($3300) of this new bike? Is the S10 even being produced any longer? I think it’s a wonderful bike. 😍

Ouch! $3000 ebike that is billed as a bike without the extras! Like the design, better thought out than most. Love the Bosch mid-drive. Brilliant, this is better, smarter than most ebikes companies on the market who seem to be stuck in the past and fail to evolve. Why not an Internal gear hub with belt drive - cleaner design, no chain to muck up, fewer bits and pieces sticking out to get caught on things, damaged, etc., and lower maintenance? The label for the bike is, 'Tern Quick Haul E-Bike' - yet the rear rack is rated at only 124 lbs. I would say that a design flaw for a bike with "Haul" in the title. Perhaps in a future upgrade, they can find a more robust structure connecting to the frame, allowing a passenger to ride on the back. Best of luck with this design, but at $3000 it's a bit to rich for a starter ebike for me.

Thanks for that video. I am wondering, what is the major difference between HSD and Quick Haul? Both are about the same size. I know the HSD list price is a bit higher than the Quick Haul, but street price are pretty much comparable already. I was looking for the Quick Haul, but the HSD for the same price (in Germany) was already available, so I took the HSD 🙂 Would be happy to see a comparison video with a pro and con list for each bike and what speaks for each of them.
