I must be the only person who bought a fireblade because it didnt have any electronics and is probably the last superbike left with a mechanical throttle cable and a non abs option, also they can drop weight easily mine weighs 178kg with a full tank of fuel which is over 30kgs less than an s1000rr.

Yeah especially as a road bike Id prefer a bike like this that I don't have to go through 10 modes of traction traction control, wheelie control, and all those gubbins but engine wise, especially, it does seem pretty bland.

right, you don't need all that extra stuff, you just need a nice ride that does what you want it to do.

+Alex Bligh I doubt that the Fireblade throttle is truly mechanical. Many bikes have the throttle controlled by the ECU and merely take the throttle as an input. The throttle doesn't have to be an electrical throttle like YCCT. It just reads the throttle cable position off the throttle pulley which normally would open the butterfly valve. Some bikes even have primary and secondary throttle valves, the rider controls only the secondary throttle valves. Also you know that it has Combined ABS and a computer-controlled steering-damper. How could you ever seriously think that the throttle is mechanically "pure"? Also you comparing the weight of your modified bike to a stock s1000rr which is idiotic.

I've got the 2012 CBR1000... Great bike for the road. I'll never out grow it; I'm used to it's power but there's much more to riding a bike than twisting your wrist in a straight line.

Its one of the last great pure super bikes. All these new bikes with all these rider aids just dumb down the experience. The experience with this bike is as pure as you can get in today's age in technology.

I love the fact it's old school but I only wish they added cruise control and heated grips as standard like BMW did their bikes. Not everyone wants a crazy track bike which burns fuel like crazy and is uncomfortable on the road btw. Some of us actually want a sexy sportbike that has plenty of grunt, is reliable, is comfortable, is fun and great on gas as an everyday bike. And, NO, I'm not talking about a sport tourer but a sport bike with all these characteristics because there's nothing more fun than carving curves.

I own a 2008 CBR 1000 RR and it is an unbelievable super bike I ride on the street with a group of very experienced riders and my bike keeps up with the latest and best bikes in the world o the street !!! an 2013 HP4 and a 1299 and a 2015 S1000rr plus a few other monster bikes on the market and the blade carves up the back roads in NC and it doesn't skip a beat !!! 99% of every super bike never gets ridden on the track and for the price the blade is the best bike on the market yes yes its older looking but I still think its sexy .. I understand people buy 2015 bikes after they read these articles even though they cant ride at all just to say they have the best but I can say from experience that the 2015 S 1000 RR makes you a better rider I ride with a girl that has only been riding for 6 months and she kept up with the group because the electronics into every turn .... it actually makes a bad rider great and that's good and bad !!! if they every loose the electronics aids they would crash instantly .... its better to learn on a non electronic bike before you get the new one !! well it looks like 2017 will be Hondas new bike release and hopefully they step up there game to compete on the track with ducks and BMWs
@danmks2

That surely indicates a failing of your testing program. After all, sportsbike owners don't restrict their bikes to the track - they have to live with them. This is what the FireBlade is about. Take off the insane edge for a sports bike you can live with - and which relies on you the ride for control and input. The reason it still does well is - yes - because it's cheap. But also because unlike many other bikes, it's designed to be as much fun as possible on the road - where most sportsbikes live.

Did he really say that the blade doesn't have low end power? I don't know about the 2015 model but my 2009 has very impressive low end. Did they re tune the engine for the newer bikes?

+lanesplitter87 They may have modified the ECU programming to roll back the spark advance in the first two gears below 5k. They do that on the VFR1200. You all should remember, these are powerful bikes, and the mfgs know this and they are quite aware of the fact that on one hand they sell because they are powerful bikes yet on the other hand most riders can't handle that power. The irony is that they have been doing this for years yet there are no bike reviewers who dyno the bikes in each gear just to test for this.

Electronic aides are for the less able riders, good riders have all the aides they're ever need in their right hand....that's why people love riding and owning the blade, it's fun finding/feeling your on the bikes limit knowing it's you doing it rather than an aid doing it for you, we don't need bikes to be going down the same road as F1 technical crap.... anti wheelie, anti spin, launch control, all sounds no fun to me! "top bike the CBR100RR", and you don't even have to be an expert rider to own it, as it will make you understand "bike control" very quickly

I love the blade. People need to know the difference between street bikes and track bikes. Honda is dominating in motogp so they can make good track bikes. Honda is making a street bike here and they've done a hell of a good job, cutting off all the unnecessary stuff. You want power? Get a racing version of the motor and it'll set you back $10000 while you smile home with 215 rear wheel hp wsbk style! I hope Honda sticks to their strong suit and not be misled by the competition. Meanwhile, the $187000 RC-213V is out there for the track freaks that have no prize for their track times.

Well you have ridden a lot more modern bikes than I have so you probably know what your talking about. But I just bought a 2012 CBR1000RR with a Akraprovic exhaust and I feel like it has strong bottom end power and very strong midrange power. I do agree it is pretty weak on top. Above 12k RPM and above 140 MPH it just doesn't pull very hard. I am going to take it to a good tuner and hopefully get a little more top end power. I also ride a 2012 ZX14R and the CBR1000RR feels just as fast up to about 125 MPH and than things start going down hill quick.

The reason people still buy the fireblade because it won't break down like a zx10r, Ducati or even the s1000rr. Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha are the only 3 company's in the top ten that makes a reliable bike right now if you don't believe me look at consumer reports for proof. www.consumerreports.org/cro/news/2015/04/who-makes-the-most-reliable-motorcycle/index.htm

I see people saying that less than %10 of riders can actually get the full ability out of a liter bike anyway might as well get a 600?? That's ridiculous. I bought a 600 for my first bike just to learn on and turned around and bought a 1000 6 weeks later. I had never ridden street bikes prior. I learned in 3 hours how to ride my 600 and after having my 1000 I hate getting on 600's. Not enough power. If I'm on the highway and want to jump a gap and get ahead of a car it's risky on a 600. On my 1000 I can just sneeze on the throttle and jump a car or two. That's why I love a liter bike.

Of course the smart computer makes it more modern, and the traction control as other aides do help, but my personal favourite is this, I have the 2016 fireblade (I believe exactly what the chap is showing) and it’s absolutely brilliant!!! Keeps up with gsxr1k s1krr and r1’s easily, but obviously depends on the rider too!!! I’m not saying I’m super fast rider but depends who I bump into on the road or my mates! :-)

At 1:55 you describe it as less track-focused than its competitors, just after saying it's essentially the same bike as 2008. Are you saying the 2008 model was less track-focused too? Is it not more the case the bike is completely track-focused, but Honda has chosen not to keep pace with the competition, instead relying on it's badge and the Fireblade legend to continue to flog it?

T Brown Yes there will be a new ZX 10 for 2016 as revealed by Guim Roda who is team manager of Kawasaki world super bike, and rumour suggests it could have well in excess of 200HP. As for Suzuki, rumour has it that they may come out with a new engine using variable valve timing. I just had a look at this website - 44Teeth.com showig 2 pics side by side one of a GSXR 250 and the other a GSXR 1000 although they mention that it probably isn't the actual bike.
