The housing market is inflated and oversaturated with homes being on the market with astronomical price tags just stagnant for months. It is very clear that or generation will be likely one of the most devastating bubble pops in modern history. I’m closing in on retirement, and I have benefitted much from using a financial advisor. I didn’t really start early, so I knew the compound interest of index fund investing would not work for me. Funny how I pulled in over 80% profit than some of my peers who have been investing for many years. Maybe you should consider this too

I received advice to diversify my portfolio among various assets, including stocks and bonds, as a means to protect my inherited $2.5 million portfolio. While I typically prefer buying and holding assets, this strategy doesn't seem suitable for the current market, which feels like a rollercoaster ride. Additionally, I'm concerned about the impact of inflation on my portfolio and my financial security in retirement.

Although inflation IS reflected in the price of goods, it is caused by a growth in the amount of money circulating in an economy. It is a monetary phenomenon not a supply or demand problem. The confusion arises from the distortion of the normal free market pricing mechanisms. More money circulating does increase demand, but strictly speaking is not the cause. The increase in the amount of money circulating can be caused by both total money supply and velocity.
@M3xC

It’s exact and that’s what she said in the video. I think the goal was to put it simply for most people. Increased money supply = more demand vs supply = inflation (simply put). You can say that everything has a cause, and one is the cause of another.

I notice that Ackman incorporates ideals from the Buffet/Munger school of thought. He mentions discounting back stock values at 9 or 10 percent. That's an element of the Margin of Safety Mental model from your episode on 2023-08-03 "Charlie Munger: 'I got rich when I understood this' (Mental Models)" He also runs $PSHZF on a concentrated portfolio which tells me he has similar mindset that guides Berkshire. That could be an effect of actually running the Opportunity Cost mental model or simply being confident and smart enough to increase existing stakes rather than mindlessly hedging with his "30th or 40th ranked business". You've taught me a lot.

Increasing agricultural, transportation and equipment cost. I don’t think so many people really understand how much regulatory cost burden is passed down. Or the fact that the new dump truck they pass driving down the road cost close to a quarter million dollars. 🤦‍♂️so many dots to connect…..

So property at risk of damage, shares volatile, banks and superannuation being hacked, gold and silver being compulsory acquired like in 1930s. Great interview, but so frustrating at 4:00, Bill is missing it. Yes, 4% is historically low, but like all things financial, they are in RELATIONSHIP to other asset and debt prices. 4% rate applied to current inflated asset prices is HIGH. Affordability of ANY asset or debt is based on two things; asset price and cost of debt. Asset prices and cost of debt have FAR outstripped wages. I am so frustrated that many of the guys like Bill as well as ALL the talking heads, are missing this connection and focusing almost solely on percentage rates. Come on guys!

That’s not true, people just spend more money on crap now. People used to eat out at nice a week, went camping not on expensive holidays, had no phones or iPads, didn’t buy Starbucks and brought lunch to work with them while buying a cheap car. Now people live in debt and buy expensive cars and iPhones while eating out constantly and whine about being poor. I went from poor to wealthy just by changing these things about my lifestyle and investing the extra cash. People forget that in the past life was a lot more simple and cheap. People hung out without spending money and saved money to buy things rather than using credit.

Bill Ackman's insights, combined with your thorough research, paint a comprehensive picture of what we might expect in the coming years. It's a timely reminder for investors to be cautious and strategic, especially in these uncertain times. I particularly appreciated your emphasis on the importance of investing in businesses with pricing power. Higher interest rates only slightly curtail demand in the short term so then it lowers inflation a little. Problem with higher rates, it actually slows supply too (longer term). So raising rates will reach a point of actually perpetuating higher rates. Playing with rates is not a catch all problem solver. so we got a problem since this is a supply side inflation disease. (before it was a demand side, this is a first). Switching gears: the stocks he owns , aint all that. I think Ackman says invest in inelastic industries and companies with monopolies..so he thinks thats what he bought. well for now, he is right but that can change fast. Inflation will be here as long as we have a supply problem. Only small businesses can dig us out with more productivity to end inflation.
