Before fronting the 1970's pop music group, Starland Vocal Band with Margot Chapman and Jon Carroll, Bill and Taffy Danoff had a hand in writing(they'd already written Country Roads prior to meeting John Denver) and then co-writing (a new 2nd verse) one of John Denver's biggest hits, Take Me Home Country Roads.
#takemehomecountryroads #starlandvocalband #johndenver
I prefer hearing the songwriter's rendition of their own songs, wish they'd recorded this for an album.
Take Me Home Country Roads was co-written by Bill Danoff and Taffy Nivert and John Denver
Bill and Taffy were close friends and associates of Denver's and provided backup vocals on his early albums as well as writing or co-writing songs with John that he recorded over the years.
Bill and Taffy Danoff started in the mid sixties as Fat City, then recorded as Bill and Taffy in the early 1970's, and then fronted Starland Vocal Band from the mid 1970's to early 1980's.

Great song! Thanks for sharing. I saw a video in which Bill Danoff explains that he had never been to WV before he wrote that song. Instead, he explained that a group from WV who regularly attended their shows gave him ideas for the song. Cool story.

Thank you Bill and Taffy! I was in the Navy stationed at the Pentgon when you all were singing this at the Cellar Door for the first time.... and I'm from West Virginia. My heart beats a little faster every time I hear it still. So many memories of the Vietnam War...demonstrations... hippies....Georgetown...and West Virginia.

@@USNAVDC yes, he's still there, he taught a music writing class at Georgetown University for awhile, he's retired but still finds time to answer a few fan questions and the occasional interview and he and Taffy have been so supportive of our channel here, I wanted to find a way for their music to still reach fans, old and new, and so far it's working, I'm not sure how you might arrange a get together, we have a companion Facebook group that Bill,Taffy and Jon are in, if you're on Facebook, the link is in our about section.

Agree, but since we wrote it, it was only natural that we performed it, and it was John Denver with Fat City (us) who recorded the hit version.

If Memory serves, it was " all my memories ",he'd wanted "all of my memories ",it just didn't fit, he finally used all 4 words in his song " All Of My Memories " on his Aerie album,we had a different 2nd verse than the recording.

My last band did a cover of Jason & The Scorchers’ cover of this great song. My voice (drummer singing high harmonies) was a bit shot that night, so a few notes were missed. kzbin.info/www/bejne/mYSTqJeEhdeFd6s

We originally wrote this song with Johnny Cash in mind with the alternate 2nd verse, but John heard it first and ask us to write a different 2nd verse and the rest is history.
