Part 1: • Bill Bellamy on His Mo...
--------
In a recent interview, Bill Bellamy reflected on his poignant meeting with Nirvana's iconic frontman, Kurt Cobain, just a year before Cobain's untimely death. Known for his immense talent yet introverted demeanor, Cobain left a lasting impression on Bellamy. Describing Cobain as a "heavy soul" and "tormented," Bellamy noted how the rock star seemed disconnected from his surroundings during the interview, maintaining minimal eye contact and appearing disheveled. Nirvana had skyrocketed to global fame with their hit "Smells Like Teen Spirit," becoming the face of the Seattle grunge movement. Despite his success, Cobain stood in stark contrast to typical rock stars, embodying a raw authenticity that resonated deeply with fans. Bellamy observed that much of Cobain’s emotion and brilliance was channelled through his music, drawing parallels to other troubled artists like Amy Winehouse. Bellamy reminisced about the potential Cobain had, imagining a world where he and other lost legends, such as Tupac, could have continued to evolve. His influence was monumental, leaving a legacy visible in the success of Nirvana

57 year old black man here. I grew up listening to only r&b and hiphop. A girlfriend in 95 gave me a cassette with Nirvana, pearl jam, alice in chains, stp, pumpkins, green day, etc, etc. I first said "I ain't listening to that ish!" But I gave it a shot. My mouth dropped open! I thought- Damn! I been missing out! These white boys aint no joke!" Got hooked immediately. At one point in the late 90s, I owned 4 Nirvana albums, 3 Pearl Jam albums, a pumpkins album, an Alice in Chains, an stp, so on and so on. Music doesn't have a race. I almost feel that grunge rock was the white version of hiphop angst. Music is one of those things that has a power to unite people. Cobain was here for a short time, but left a powerful impact.

That Alice in Chains "It Ain't Like That" been my shit for years now lol. There were so many damn dope rock acts then that are now considered some of the all time greats: Nirvana, Depeche Mode, Green Day, Nine Inch Nails, Oasis, Pearl Jam, Rage Against the Machine, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Smashing Pumpkins, Soundgarden. I didn't really get into a lot of them until later because I was a hip hop/R&B kid and it was the 90s meaning those genres were creatively on fire as well. I just wish the average person realized how blessed we are even now to have access to so much material of artists pouring their heart and souls into their works rather than just being content with these industry plants shoving corporate approved imitations of the cultures the people created FOR the people down their throats and accepting it.

@@LankyJay601actually, his handwriting does match the note. But the note wasn't a suicide note, it was note of him leaving Nirvana (Grohl and Novoselic had issues with his drug use and with Courtney Love), but someone finished the note. It seems he actually died of an overdose. Then the others at the scene staged it to look like a suicide. But then there's the theory of him being drugged to death as a plan of Courtney Love. But then there is also the theory that everyone in the room panicked when he was overdosing. Basically, a room full of heroin addicts don't make good decisions...

I’ve watched a lot of Kurt Cobain/Nirvana interviews and I’ve never seen them be interviewed by anybody that wasn’t white. I don’t even know if they appeared on Arsenio. I don’t know what to make of Bill interviewing him because he didn’t reveal if this ever aired. Maybe it wasn’t that great. Bill was doing MTV Jams at the time I believe. It might not have been Cobain’s crowd.🤷🏾‍♂️

KURT had no problem with the Brothers, Kurt was ANTI racist and NIRVANA declined a huge offer $$$ for them to open up for GUNS N ROSES but no way Kurt’s Band gonna open for Axl Rose who says the N word, 1 of My best friend is black (ROSS DOWNEY) I would never say that word, Any white person doesn’t have that right. It was great we listened to NWA/2 LIVE CREW/NIRVANA etc etc at Ross’s, The Brothers always have the Best STEREOs, They know what’s up, They invented Rock n Roll and RAP, Cheers to that!!!

I think with Kurt situation it just shows you not everyone will adjust to the fame and everything that comes with it. He didn’t care about none of that he was just a kid that wanted to make music not knowing he would be a legend. RIP KC

@@edge1000 Bleach was their raw gritty album. It sounded like it was being played live in a garage or a sweaty club Never Mind was their polished studio album. It featured professional production suited for mainstream radio. In Utero was a marriage of gritty underground and studio production. The album sounded like a blend of Bleach and Nevermind.
