He was totally annoyed because he came out 3 hrs into this show. A lot of other comedians walked off and didn't get paid. Bill let them know he was going to get paid and went on this rant. That's why he counted it down. He got a standing ovation after. BURR IS THE GOAT!!!!!!

Basically what happend was. Bull Burr was one of the last comedians on to appear in the show. All the comedians before was gettin booed off stage. After about 3-4 hours in he came on stage. And just goes off on them. He didn't like Philadelphia to begin with, and this just game him all the ammo and motivation to go off on every single person there. This is probably the most iconic moment in comedy. Comedians are constantly being heckled and booed. This is one of those rare times when a comedian fights back and he doesn't let up at all.

It was a large outdoor comedy festival with a bunch of comics. It was in New Jersey or something (Despite the title "Philly Rant"). Festival was like 10 hrs long and audience was in lawn chairs drunk all day. Audience was mix of Philly, New Jersey, New York, others. Everyone started booing like 4-5 hrs in. Comedians (Dom Irrera, Tracy Morgan, others) were cutting their sets short due to all the booing and chaos. Bill got pissed and decided to shit on the audience for being disrespectful to the other comics.

Just for reference. Philly is known to have the most difficult to deal with crowds in the nation. They had a crazy good lineup and booed almost every comedian before him. Bill was closing and was already getting pissed in the back and when they started booing him he just let it all go. One of the most impressive examples of crowd control ever in comedy. This was one of the things that catapulted Bill Burr's career to another level. Still blows my mind every time I hear it lol. Glad you guys enjoyed it.

His rant made him a legend to many, if not all, stand-up comedians for pushing back (hard!) against this classless audience group made up of hecklers and trolls. Now, comedians have their share of hecklers during shows as they move forward in their careers, but this Philly crowd wasn't there to be entertained, they were there solely to try and make the lives of these comedians as miserable as possible. So, Burr came out packing and never let up for his full 12 minute set. As rough as some of his comments were...and much of it was done within the context of this setting...this crowd deserved every drop of vitriol Burr poured on their collective heads.
