What an inspiration Bill Curry became in his life. He played Pro Football with some of the greatest players ever., whether it was at Green Bay or Baltimore, Bill was a very likable person, humble in spirit, and very quick to praise his teammates or other teams great players. One of the previous posters stated that there were not enough Bill Curry's in the world, and so true that is. A man that many young men should aspire to follow.

I very much respect Curry for admitting his mistakes & shortcomings and learning from them to become a better person. We all can learn from his example.

This man strikes me as someone who has learned from his experiences and who has arrived at a point of being able to be brutally honest with himself. In other words, he seems to have become a man and an adult. I think he is someone I would like to know.

I always liked coach Curry, through all the drama that engulfed Alabama at that time. Phenomenal personality, and he took his job VERY seriously. In 1989 His team started out 10-0 and I firmly believe that if he would have stayed on his 1990 squad would have competed for the National championship. Great guy.

Tell you what kind of guy Bill Curry is.....years ago I was a football coach in Georgia and after reading his book "Ten men in the Huddle" on a whim, I emailed him and asked him if I could get his advice on something. (He was the Head Coach at GSU at the time). He not only emailed me back, but gave me his number and we talked over the phone on day for a good half hour!! As busy as he was being a head coach of a Div 1 program, he didn't have to do that but he did! Outstanding human being! God Bless him!

Curry’s 1989 Alabama team that won the SEC title and played in the Sugar Bowl is one of my favorite Bama teams of all time. They were tough and gritty and so much fun to watch.
@tmarsh03073 жыл бұрын
That team was truly special, as they dealt with so many injuries yet, never gave up and found a way to win a championship. I remember seeing them play Tennessee in Birmingham, and their offense clicked like one of Bama's most recent offenses, yet they did not have near the talent that these current Bama teams have. Somehow, Curry could get the best out of players who did not necessarily have the most talent, but would do what it took in practice and on gameday. I simply wish that he had more on-the-field success so that he would be more well-regarded than he is. He's truly a good person.

I knew Bill in high school and occasionally ran into him at Georgia Tech (in the library!). His book "Ten Men You Meet in the Huddle" is terrific. Facts that stuck with me are (a) the lack of water during practice -- to toughen you; (b) how little they were paid in those days; and (c) how brutal every hit was.

I could listen to Bill Curry talk football for hours. He seems like a brutally honest guy. Also, how great of a guy and a teammate was Willie Davis?

I recommend you read or listen to the audio version (like I did) of "Closing the Gap," Willie Davis' autobiography, that came out not that many years ago. It was a fascinating and very revealing book.

Bill lived right next door to me and my family when I was about 10 years old in East Point Georgia. Most anything you ever read about Bills early years mention College Park and College Park High school but never East Point. I think that's because where we lived he should have been going to Hedlin High where my older brother and sister went but I think because Bill was such a good football player they bent the rules a little bit. I'm only guessing about that because I don't really know how strict the school districts were back then. Maybe he got a waiver. My other two older brothers worked out with Bill and his father in their basement. They were just a wonderful family. Bill had a 2 younger sisters and they both were knockouts. My family moved to Illinois close to Chicago. Back then there used to be a preseason game where the college all stars would play the NFL champions form the previous year at Soldier field. My Dad and I went down to the hotel the college kids were staying at and picked up Bill and brought him to our house for a barbecue. What a gentleman he was. What career he had. I know he's in the Packers Hall of Fame.

I watched Bill play for both the Packers and Colts. I remember the Don Shula Show when I was living in Delaware stationed at Dover Air Force Base from 1967-1971. Watching this interview with Bill Curry was very inspirational and brought back a lot of memories of my high school and college football days. More people should watch this very enlightening interview.
