Sam Natole talks with Bill Dube about his 40 acer Rabbit Pen/ Beagle Club that he runs and operates up in Parkman, Maine. He has spent many years bringing his vision to life and he continues to make improvements and upgrades on the grounds every Spring. We explore the property and see what he has finished working on since our last video.
The Rabbit Pen is used by Bill and Beaglers from all over New England to train and condition Beagles for Field trials and Hunting. Houndsmen also have a use for the pen. Many young hound pups start site chasing and picking up scent in Bill Dube's pens before switching to big game like bear and bobcat.
With seven oversized rabbit feeders there is sure to be some excitement and engagement from any dog who enters. There is a smaller "Puppy Pen" which is stocked with rabbits to ensure that the young pups can get in on the action too. These pens are extremely valuable for training and conditioning.
Hunters from all over the country will leave their Beagles with Bill for 2 months in order to get them ready and conditioned for the up coming hunting seasons. Everyday Bill is working the dogs. With over 50 years of experience he knows exactly what make a superb beagle with it be for field trials or for hunting.

Reminds me of my good friend Sonny Underwood's North Bush Beagle Club in Mooers Forks, NY. I was a member for many years. He bred and ran some great beagle hounds there. I was privileged to own a few of his hounds though they were oversized; not for Field Trials. I no longer own hounds due to geographic moves for work, but hope to get back into it once I retire. Why do you run your year old dogs rabbits because they turn back on their tracks????

A dog with a good nose won’t always be on the line. Best dog I ever owned couldn’t make it through a field trial. She always got eliminated for opening up on a track, while the other dogs couldn’t smell anything. A lot of these field trial beagles could run all day long in a truck bed.
