In 1980, it must have been right after he played in San Francisco, the trio played The Merv Griffin Show (tv) in Hollywood - I recorded it on cassette tape - and played "My Story". That night, the trio played the Hollywood Bowl and I went, picked up my date - and we got there just as they were finishing as she had taken too long. They were the opening act and I thought they'd be the closing act! I think Sarah Vaughan was the other act and Shelly Manne was the MC. Afterwards they flew to NY.
