That series came down to Detroit blowing Game 3 at home and going up 2-1 in that series. The Knicks whipped Detroit in Game 1 and Isiah hit the game winner in Game 2. In Game 3 at the Palace, Detroit was up 2 with 4.7 seconds and 90 percent FT shooter Joe Dumars went to the line to put the game away. @Danny P No, you still don't get it. O'Neal _never_ matured. Ever. Didn't matter what happened in Orlando. He was/is always going to be a man-child. Hardaway was way more mature _and_ talented, but he never had the leadership qualities or mental strength necessary to overcome the Rodman Bulls. As far as coaching, the only other guy who could compete with Jackson (at the time) was Larry Brown. He was busy with Indiana and Philadelphia. Had Chicago gotten by Orlando in '95, then there's no guarantee that they get by the Pacers. By the way, individual NBA players don't have win/loss records. It's a team sport.

It's sort of strange the Knicks followed in the Pistons footsteps. The Bulls had already learned how to get by the Pistons. It seemed like Riley would have understand that and put together a team that had a better chance against the Bulls, instead of going down the Piston 2.0 road. This Knick team with Jackson and X-man was actually closer to the Pistons though, playing tough physical D and having some scoring options similar to the Pistons. However the Knicks traded away Jackson and X-man, and they ended up with a lesser, more one-dimensional version of Pistons. They lacked the scoring options of the Pistons, which was part of the Pistons success. The Pistons where tough and dirty, but they were also talented and had a lot of different weapons on the offensive end. Seemed like Riley would have made his team more like the Pistons by getting some good scoring options to complement their tough D or scrapping the whole Pistons 2.0 plan and come up with some other approach to beating the Bulls. At some level it didn't really matter, because Jordan retired which helped them get to the finals. However, in the finals that lack of offensive weaponry caught up with them and they lost to team that was actually similar to the Bulls - which in this case was Hakeems Rockets.
@anthonysteen562 жыл бұрын
In theory yes, but you’ve got to start with your means and your means is always centered around your best player. Ewing was big center bully ball. That meant you build your whole team around that idea or you blow it up. Blowing up your team and identity after passing the Pistons is a tough - not impossible - call to make.

Keep X man and Action Jackson and then should have acquired Mitch Richmond .That was the keys to win and contend for multiple championships along with defeating the Bulls! 😎😎

I think Hakeem's Rockets would have beaten the Bulls both years regardless. They had no one to guard Hakeem, and Jordan never played well against the Rockets. Historically, Jordan had his worst games in Houston.
@jab12892 жыл бұрын
@@skinnypippen9580 Yes. Or, they should have tried to trade for Dennis Rodman, and they should have drafted Latrell Sprewell instead of Hubert Davis. That Knick team didn't improve in 93. I don't know how they did better looking back on it.
@Jeff_Pryce Жыл бұрын
@@DIVISIONINCISION I dont think so. The Bulls in playoffs form were just different. And Jordan likely would have taken his struggles in Houston as a challenge and proceeded to drop 45 against the Rockets.

Contrast this behavior to the way the Pistons walked off the court in front of the Bulls. Only John Salley came over to the Bulls locker room to say congrats. Well there you go they did have class as well as justice. They never complained about the bulls when they played dirty or physical because they did it too. But when Jordan all the sudden decided to sound off on them after going up 3-0 as if he's losing a war against them and try to put an asterisk on their chips, THEN they walked out on the disrespectful Bulls. The Knicks lost to the pistons in the playoffs as well and they never became as salty as Jordan did, so the pistons gave them their respect. The pistons also don't disrespect the Celtics for walking out on them. The bulls were the media market so they got to play victim against the pistons.
