The great Johnny Rodgers. They said he was too small for the NFL, so he went up to Canada and lit up the CFL. Johnny was a joy to watch with a football in his hands. I’m glad this video has Johnny’s punt return (touchdown) versus Oklahoma in The Game of the Century in ‘71. After their 35-31 victory over the Sooners, the Cornhuskers went on the crush Alabama in the Orange Bowl to claim the National Title. Johnny Rodgers, one of the all-time great NCAA Football players!

they said the same thing about doug flutie that he was too small and he did the same thing went to canada and lit up came back to the nfl and had a good but not great career. the bills signed him to be their backup qb and he ended up being a very good starter for them.

I gotta claim ignorance - I've never heard of this guy, but he had some great moves. Looked him up and he was drafted #25 by the Chargers but opted to go to the CFL as he said San Diego was offering him 4th or 5th round money. He won a bunch of awards in Canada, then signed with the Chargers in '77 but was sidelined with injuries for the most part and didn't do much. Wonder what would've happened had he been NFL from the start.

He would've played with Unitas in his rookie year had he come to the NFL. Johnny Rogers was the heisman winner and hero of the "game of the century" in Nebraska v OU. One of the greatest "what if's" in the history of pro football imo.

@@b17bomber That's right! Unitas with San Diego that last year. Ugh, don't remind me, LOL. Great footage by the way. What film(s) did you use? Don't think this is from any NFL Films show.

I probably would have felt the same, but watched the Classic Thanksgiving game from 1971 between Nebraska and Oklahoma. One of the best football 🏈 games of any kind I have ever seen. Rodgers was spectacular for Nebraska.

@@blazer79 he was amazing. As an OU fan I'm glad he was before my time, it's easier to appreciate his brilliance.
