In 1996 we took two bus loads of sixth graders to Chicago for two nights on the town. We lived in the suburbs of Detroit. On that trip we safely walked the waterfront of Chicago with over 60 kids. The analogy between Chicago today and Detroit thirty years ago is excellent. I last visited Chicago five years ago and stayed at a deluxe downtown hotel. I remember telling the staff at the front desk that my visit was my last because I could see that the city was only going to get worse. One of my business partners is from Zambia. I'm originally from Kenya Nairobi and we will NOT hire young black males to work in our garage and dealership (higher end clientele). I was born in Kenya but moved to Toronto when I was 5. My partner moved her much later in his life and he does not like the black community here for the most part. Even though the it's the minority of that community that brings them down, it's not a gamble we can justify in our business. The negative offset is far greater. It sucks because the mechanics you find in Africa are far superior than what we get here. Yet they work with a fraction of the tools we have available to us here. Last time I was in Nairobi our family had a break down and the mechanics had us back on the road in less than 2 hours. With no hoist, no air tools, no formal training. They cut rubber bushings out of used tires and fit them in our control arms. Find me a mechanic in north America that would do that.

What is not being said is that many people don't waste their time reporting many crimes since they know they may have to wait hours for police to show up and then they do nothing. In the rare case where they actually arrest someone the DA just releases them the next day.
