Bill Moyers is a national treasure. One day we won't have him any more. When that day comes I would like to see a great tribute made for the greatness of this man. It would be unlikely, but it would be wonderful if someone steps up to his plate. We need to hear things from such a man. He speaks truth w/ such honor & straightforward grace. If he's on, I'm watching, listening, & mentally bowing at his feet.

Nazis and the Confederacy are not equivalent; they both committed terrible, unforgivable crimes, but historically and culturally their crimes are not equivalent. I dont support slavery, obviously, but I do support secession or the right of states to secede for the reasons stated in the Declaration of Independence. No Civil War fought to preserve any Union is worth it, ie no federal government is worth sacrificing 1 million lives.

Confederates fought to save their rural livelihoods. Slavery was on its way out due to mechanization; the Eli Whitney cotton gin.

The South did not want Northern interference. The South intended to sell their cotton to UK garment makers. The North interfered. Cotton harvesting machines were invented, thus no longer a need for expansive slave labor. The Civil War was about economics, less so about morality of capitalism. The slaves merely converted over to share croppers living the same lower class lifestyle.

As a Government employee, I once told a Southern military-analyst colleague who'd attended the Virginia Military Academy that the Confederates had indeed fought bravely, but for one of the WORST causes for which men have ever fought. He was speechless -- couldn't even entertain the thought; was never given the vocabulary to do so.

Well, I think you'll get a kick out of this... 21st Century Fox CEO, James Murdoch (Yes, Rupert's son) has pledged to donate one million dollars to the Anti Defamation League in protest to Donald Trump. It's true. You should read his e-mail on the subject. It is absolutely beautiful. This was reported earlier today by Maggie Haberman of the New York Times. Fake news? I think not! We know the answer to that. We know that a guard accidentally shot Kennedy, who was going to die anyways from other wounds. We know they protected the guard's identity for his and his family's sake, since he had enough to deal with. And when this era is done and past, the documents will be released to the public. What more do you need to know?

Actually, I think it's more like surviving when they weren't supposed to. The South wasn't just defeated they were destroyed and felt the typical atrocities that befalls the losing side in a war including starvation. I don't think you'll find anyone in the South who will want to sing praises of a 300- or 400-year-old stain like slavery. Baltimore and Minneapolis are pretty far north of that Mason-Dixon line. It's funny, but everyone always wants to start in the south "fixing" things, then eventually work their way north.

My father was one of the best men I've ever known he suffered mental, and physical abuse that would have destroyed others. I thought we had a lot boy was I naive. The alternatives to support were a disgraced criminal who nearly won in 2016 (by either voter fraud or an uninformed electorate) and for 2020 your party is running someone with progressing dementia? Are you serious? Plus, that 1/3 may be something talked about by the liberal news media - but there is massive support for trump as yet unmeasured, support from the people across this land who are responsible for making this country run each day and who understand the issues beyond being influenced by a slanderous, unfair, slanted media attack against someones character. Can't the dems find a leader we could all respect? This is a childish video.

Best example Prince George’s County Maryland. Middle Class and Upper Middle Class Blacks purposely move to an area that is predominantly black and they thrive there. Corporate America and dysfunctional Federal programs have quietly and effectively destroyed most of the middle class black communities by across the country by sapping them if their best and brightest. Frederick Douglas saw that this was going to happen. I’m a conservative middle aged white man and I can’t stand how the liberals have used and abused the black population in this country. I remember seeing this at the time and thinking he had described trump exactly. It’s a powerful description. Years later, it’s still the best I’ve heard.

Interestingly, one of Thomas Jefferson's grandchildren descended from his relationship with Sally Hemings was a Union colonel from Wisconsin. Ms. Hemings was Jefferson's slave, but was also his wife's half sister. The US certainly has an interesting history.

Better to have to discuss 'where is the line' than to have no line. Trump is ethically and morally deficient and doesn't even have the intellectual capacity, integrity, or interest in gaining an understanding of the concepts that are at issue.

And everytime Trump speaks, or Tweets, a brain cell dies somewhere. The man is unbelievably lacking in any substance and substitutes jaw-dropping ignorant bluster and toxicity instead. What is most amazing is the utter lack of justification for what Trump says, beyond "I occupy the role of President."

When I first came to Los Angeles, I lived next door to a man who worked in film. He was a set builder - he BUILT ATLANTA - or a "facsimile" of Atlanta and then supervised "THE BURNING OF ATLANTA" for the film 'GONE WITH THE WIND" I WAS IMPRESSED! That's one of my FAVORITE MOVIES. It's not because of my "political" opinions - it's a WORK OF ART. The relationship between the heroine and her black "maid" was a close and intimate one. They LOVED each other!. And the STORY was captivating and enchanting. The DESTRUCTION of Atlanta and our heroines bravery in REBUILDING her life and WORKING THE LAND is an EPIC tale that can't be matched. Hattie' (the maid) speech upon accepting her OSCAR tell us all we need to know. A MASTERPIECE! Yet - IT'S BEEN REMOVED from TV because of it's "rascist" nature! I can't BELIEVE HOW STUPID people are
