My son and I speak about that a great deal. With limited language and technology to help, how were the ancients going to pass on their observances and experiences? Why would humans, at some point, start using analogies and similes? We want to explain, describe, compare.

Do you want to know how to interpret what happened in days of yore? Just in case you skipped physics at school? We have what are called proxies for various environmental and climate events that we can use. Such as ocean sediment data. Ice core data. Tree ring data. Et cetera. So, we can take the sensible route and essentially ignore wild claims proposed by amateur mythologists, and just use those data to reconstruct various happenings in the past. Or, should anyone want to actually test their wacko claims based on those misinterpretations, the data is there for anyone to check. And none of that data supports such woo as claimed by EU and other Velikovskians. Now, some of the ridiculous nonsense can be ruled out by the laws of physics, without even checking proxy data. Such as Venus doing handbrake turns around the solar system in the recent past. And getting so close to Earth that their atmospheres mixed! Lol. You can put Venus where the Moon is now, and it would increase the tidal effects by ~ 70 times. We might notice that in various records. Put it within ~ 20 000 km, and both planets get torn to pieces. It is not all that difficult to calculate that the increase in gravitational forces compared to those we experience from the Moon at its present location, would be ~ 500 000 times greater. That would put your high tide above the ISS! As mentioned, both planets would cease to exist. Ever seen what Jupiter did to comet Shoemaker-Levy 9? Or what it is doing to Io from > 400 000 km? Then we can get into the ridiculous plasma woo of Peratt and others. Some people have looked for proxy records of the Carrington event. Some, controversially, have claimed to see them. That was a puny event compared to what Peratt et al propose. That sort of woo would definitely leave a signature. Beryllium from the effects of the solar particles interacting with Earth's atmosphere would be one, iirc. You can check the Be proxy in the ice core data. There are no such spikes corresponding to what they propose. Now, I can forgive scientifically challenged amateurs like Talbott and Thornhill for not knowing such things. Peratt, however, has a PhD in physics. He worked at an institution that would have had free access to the relevant data. Not that it is difficult to find. So, instead of spending 10s of thousands of dollars, provided by a Velikovskian charity, looking for non-existent plasma rock art woo, why didn't he first check the proxy data, for free, to see if it was worth the effort? That is what a competent scientist would do. If you want to see how such competent scientists work on similar hypotheses, I highly recommend the book, 'T-rex and the Crater of Doom', by Walter Alvarez. That is a true-life detective story of how, over many years, he and others pieced together the impact theory of the end-Cretaceous mass extinction. From an iridium anomaly, to finally finding the impact crater. That is how real science works. What you people have is nothing to do with science. You start off with a quasi-religious conviction that the misinterpretations of mythology are correct, and when the data, and the laws of physics rule it out, you try to obfuscate that data and those laws, so that it fits (at least in your minds) your essentially religious belief that your misinterpretations cannot possibly be wrong, despite having zero scientific support for them. That is the MO of a cult, a religion. It is nothing to do with science.

I wonder if the Ancients were under a mass delusion after the cataclysms, that if collectively there was emotional disruption inside of men that the heavens would go into chaos. So they built nature religions ordering their environments to appease the gods, and performing offerings through ritual.
