The Chrismas Carol was Charles Dickens's most popular book. The most successful one in his career. Many television shows have used the plot of this book for a holiday special and there have been many adaptations of the book itself over the years. Of course, it was predictable, it was following the plot of a 200-year-old book that has been a holiday classic for several generations.
@MysterClark2 жыл бұрын
I'm a bit curious if she's even heard of A Christmas Carol before as she seems to think these different shows just happened to fall onto the same plot or are copying each other or something. I would've thought the fact that they were doing the show in the movie and the fact that it's called Scrooged would've been a tip off but maybe not! haha

@@TheOtherOne111 Yeah. Suppose if you want to get technical she says she never heard of Charles Dickens' Scrooge. But there is no Charles Dickens' Scrooge as it was call A Christmas Carol and just contained a character named Scrooge. It still probably means she's never heard of A Christmas Carol either but I could see some confusion there if she thought Scrooge was an actual story. Either way, she seems very unaware this story has been around for a long time.

Everyone suggesting Muppets (which IS good) but nobody's mentioning the best of them: 1951's SCROOGE. It's pretty much a perfect adaptation of the book with a brilliant performance by Alastair Sim. Dickens is an extremely famous author and A Christmas Carol is his most well-known book, published in 1843. Ebenezer Scrooge is a miserly business owner who underpays his clerk, Bob Cratchit, and won’t give him the day off for Christmas because he hates Christmas. His dead business partner shows up, says he’s been punished in death, forced to carry around the chains he forged in life, but tells Scrooge he can still be saved and will send three ghosts to him. After the ghosts, Scrooge has a change of heart. That’s the short-short version. There are many performances and adaptations of the book. I think a really good one is A Muppet Christmas Carol. Yes, it is performed by The Muppets and has minor tweaks, but it sticks really close to the story.

Us millennials know back when we had tube screen TVs, which means dogs and cats couldn’t see what was on the screen back then. It’s only been recently with LCD TVs that they can see anything. heck, back then if you had a video camera and you tried filming a TV all you would see is part of a faded picture with a analog white band going over the screen. The point is TV screens were weird back then. To the point, they were really only calibrated for human site spectrum range.

Charles Dickens A Christmas Carol is the most classic Christmas story. Literally everyone has done a version of this from the Flinstones to Jim Carey in an animated version to HBO doing a TV version to there being several live action versions that play it straight and countless others that parody or do their own version ever since the copyright was available to the public. Everyone undoubtedly has seen some version of this at some point in their life. A Christmas Carol and Treasure Island are two of the most adapted stories in cinema.

8:00 The actor playing the first ghost (John Forsythe) isn’t as well-known now, but he was a fixture in TV and movies in the 60s, 70s, and 80s. He was in a couple of Hitchcock films (“Topaz” and “The Trouble with Harry”), was the voice of Charlie in the TV series “Charlie’s Angels” and the first two movies, and was on the infamous primetime soap “Dynasty.” He was also a founding member and teacher at the Actors’ Studio in NY, where he taught Marlon Brando, Montgomery Clift, Patricia Neal, and Joan Collins. 11:58 Third movie in the Karen Allen Trilogy. (The first two being “Raiders of the Lost Ark” and “Starman.”) 24:17 You’ve probably seen Carol Kane in a lot of stuff, but she’s rarely the star. Among other things, she was on the TV series “Taxi,” and she was Miracle Max’s wife in “The Princess Bride.” 27:43 There was probably an issue with naming rights. “A Christmas Carol” by Charles Dickens is almost certainly in the public domain, but this studio might not have been able to use the name (even in the show-within-the-movie) because another studio in the US has made an adaptation named “Christmas Carol” or something similar. Same thing has happened with other public domain stories like “Dracula.” If you want to see a slightly more loyal adaptation of the actual story (which has one *hilarious* musical number) check out the musical “Scrooge” from 1970 with Albert Finney and Alec Guinness.

Ms. Cherry, I've often wondered if there are any Australian Christmas songs about the holiday being in the summertime? Christmas in the summer is something us northern hemispherians can't really get our heads around.
@michaelccozens2 жыл бұрын
There's a lot to delve into there, particularly as Christmas is mostly just hijacked winter-solstice celebrations (well, "celebrations"; it's mostly about keeping everyone from offing themselves by reminding them that, all evidence to the contrary, the world isn't dying and the sun is coming back. Also about the time you run out of stored and unspoiled fodder for livestock, and so have a feast instead of watching them starve) that are inevitably sliding-back to quasi-secularism (to the extent that it ever left that territory). But, at least in the North, the summer solstice is a lot less remarkable than the winter one (though I'm not sure Australia's deepest winter is quite as life-obliterating as it is in much of the top half of the world, particularly for those outside the effects of the Atlantic heat-pump), so I can see a lot of "traditional" Xmas stuff not quite resonating to the same degree. What's "A Christmas Carol" without the ever-present threat of darkness and cold, especially as it symbolizes Scrooge's dying empathy and humanity? Many a paper written on this, I'm sure.

As hard as it might be to believe, according to reviews the most accurate movie adaptation of this story that also uses the most direct quotes from the book is the movie The Muppets Christmas Carol. It’s a real good feel good movie that would be worth your time to watch.

MARYYYYYY!!!!! I swear when I started watching you I was like "Mary Cherry, like the girl from Popular." I'm so happy that you watched it. I also watch the Nicole Christmas episode every Christmas. It's such a good show. I'm so happy that I was right that you named yourself after her. :D

Think it over once or twice what'll last the longest in this life, character, or rock hard thighs? In the end do you believe that beauty lies in what you see cause if you do then baby, you've been deceived. Well me, and B we hate supermodels. It's just that I'm tired of being compared.

I had a feeling you weren’t putting two and two together. A Christmas Carol by Charles Dickens is known world wide as the greatest Christmas classic ever written. It has been made into dozens of movies from the 1930’s on. Sometimes titled as “ A Christmas Carol “. Sometimes titled as Scrooge. One of the best ones is the 1951 classic, “ A Christmas Carol “ with Alistair SIM and can be seen in black and white ( the original ) or colourized. This movie is a spoof of the classic, which quite loosely follows the actual story.

Many, many versions of Scrooge/A Christmas Carol. My favorite is a black & white classic starring Alistar Sim. Very solid telling of the story!

Blackadder's Christmas Carol is the absolutely hilarious and cynical best adaptation of Dickens' original, by far!
