When I was a teenager Bill Russel was moving his family into the town we lived in north of Boston - there was a petition passed around town (started at a white church) to try & stop them moving into the neighborhood… My Dad refused to sign - He told them to shove their petition where the sun don’t shine - I was never more proud of my Dad than at that moment! ☮️

Mr. Russell faced unspeakable hatred and racism throughout his time in the NBA, and yet had choosen to see the good in people! I grew up in the white suburb's of Boston, and although he more than anyone changed the game of basketball, that is not the reason I look upon him as a hero, my hero, because he just wanted to make things better for us all, even a white kid he met on a train ride home after a great game in 1963!

I have no idea, to tell you the truth. I was working in a Los Angeles record store in the early 90's and he came in and I had no idea who he was. He was just some guy I would talk to about music. He had been looking for a record from the late 60's by a fairly obscure artist since he'd lost it in the early 70's and I had a copy and I said I'd make him a tape of it and to come back the next day and I'd give it to him. He did, I did and he asked what I wanted in exchange and I said it was no big deal. He offered to take me to a Lakers game and I passed not being interested in sports. After he left, other people I worked with were asking me if I knew who he was and they told me. It still meant nothing. I'd heard the name, but I just knew him as a really nice guy with really good taste in music. I saw him a few times over the years and he always stopped to talk about music. Never once mentioned basketball. I think he had plenty of people to talk about that with. So, I have no idea if he was living in Los Angeles. It felt like he was, but he I could have just seen him when he was in town for something and visiting the store.@@CraigMcGuinn

Thank you for your eulogy of this great man. Throughout his courageous stands (and kneels) he never succumbed to the same racial hatred he was subjected to. He was happily married to a white woman. He was friends with my late ex husband, a white man. He asked my ex to come with him when he accepted the dual positions of coach and GM of the Seattle SuperSonics. He made my ex the Assistant GM. Many years later, he joined us at a birthday party for my ex, and stood and spoke about their friendship. I had idolized Bill since Celtic days, so much so that I could not even tell him on the occasions we met. I can tell you he raised a fine daughter, Karen, an attorney and hard worker. Seeing Bill with Barack, that was an incredible moment. Two men with Mercer Island, WA connections, brought together by the arc of the universe. I better stop now.

Fred Trump Sr should not be completely exempt from the intense criticism of Donald Trump’s behavior and narcissistic tendencies. A person’s psyche doesn’t get nearly as fucked up as Donald Trump’s psyche has been since the early 90s (I know because I have lived in the tri-state area surrounding NYC my whole life: people in this area have known the problems with Trump for longer than most) without the adults in that person’s life encouraging that individual for rewarding the selfish behavior and narcissistic/sociopathic tendencies during their upbringing.

How do we get the people who need to see segments like this, to see them. How do we get MAGA people to watch introspectives like this? I think if we could figure out a way to do so on a massive scale, it would go a long way.
