Bill has SOUL in his playing. There's a tremendous amount of feel. That's what makes him so unique and great. Very few guitarists have that ability. It transcends technical mastery.

No one else plays like him in death metal. He gave Carcass the unique flair that made the band so disinct and amazing. Carcass could never exist without Bill Steer. It just couldn't. He's the soul of the band. One of the greatest guitar players of all time.

As far as i know (which isn't too much) they used standard guitars, Bill used an S series (he had a black one and a red one i believe) and Mike Amott used an RG (A red one, black pickguard and maple fretboard), they both had everything stock and they weren't baritones either. Cheers.

You definitely can hear the progression of Steer's playing more than most other players who have a recording career. Honestly he was very mediocre on the first two Carcass releases, they were great albums but he was still learning at that point. Necroticism showed a marked improvement where his melodic choices were becoming more refined. By the time of Heartwork his playing was at the standard it is today. I just find it interesting to hear the noticeable improvements of a musician who is coming of age. We really got to hear Steer at several points in his development because he started recording at a young age. He certainly is underrated considering the impact his band had on two separate subgenres. A great player indeed.

I also used a black Ibanez kind of looked like an RG but it looked like an S series. Hey do you know about trems and baritone guitars? I know he used to play in B standard along with Carcass. I always heard you need a guitar with an extended neck for lower tunings. I only ever had a fixed bridge and at the moment I only have a 300$ RG with dual humbuckers with add DiMarzio pickups. The Crunch Lab with is dope and the Liquifire which is a smooth pick up.
