Billain is the most underrated producer EVER! I mean seriously, his sounds are impresive, his production techniques are great, he`s really creative,and he simply has an 6th sense for neurofunk... He should have as much fans as Noisia or Spor have... Svaka cast Billain-e pozz iz Srbije !

Analogue gives a phatter 'warmer' sound, you can drive analogue gear as hard as you want and the sound won't clip; it does get more distorted, but its not a harsh distortion. The added distortion gives more harmonic content to the sound, making it richer and wider. Also gear like hardware limiters will make the overall perceived loudness of your track much higher than software will. The downside to hardware is it's expensive.

In short, Digital uses 1's and 0's to emulate hardware. If you run "Signal A" through an analogue processor with the SAME exact parameter settings as an exact software emulation, Signal A will sound a bit different each time it goes through the analogue one, while it'll stay the same each time going the digital route. Thats because analogue uses electric signal which makes variances since electricity isnt as easily controlled as programmed 1s and 0s. Thevariances make for that analogue "warmth"

yeah it's really all a matter of preference.. I'm madly in love with Ableton Live, but I do know it has its issues, things that would be better in Logic. I'd really like to hear some evidence when it comes to the sound engine myths though...

Ah fair enough, i'll have a go at testing at some point too. I still think FL studio is a good daw, i used to be a die hard fruity loops producer, but had to get logic when i went to college, i like the step sequencer and the pattern arrange window, its a good way to make tracks quickly. I suppose its all down to preference at the end if the day, but i think iv settled on logic. Im not necessarily saying whats daws are better or worse sound quality, but different daws do sound slighly different

From FL Studio's forums: Spend time on any forum devoted to any Digital Audio Workstation (DAWs) software or music production and you will see users making unsubstantiated claims about the audio quality of this or that DAW. Protagonists will say a given DAW is clearly and audibly superior to another. To be frank, that's just nonsense. Any DAW software that uses at least 32 Bit floating point calculations will be capable of processing audio without introducing unwanted distortions [...] Google :)

i dunno mate, i used to use Fl and i think Logic has a cleaner sound, all daws have a slightly different sound, and I dont think its to do with the native plugins, because i have always used 3rd party plugins and when i made the switch i could defo tell the difference. They all have different audio engines, so a different result is inevitable. Its like comparing the quake engine to frostbite 2. Not 100% but i thought logic was 24bit and FL 16 aswell?

Ah fair enough, i guess that wraps up the better worse argument, i read down the list of settings that have to be the same to test properly, there is quite a lot of variables. It doesnt say if there is a different sound to it, i know with reason a lot of producers boost 5k by 1db, before even starting the project (funtcase for one) Anyway im gonna shut up, as people are spamming me and thumbs down, i guess you cant even question different daws without being branded as an 'elitist'
@spaaske
@spaaske 12 жыл бұрын
Yeah maybe. However, I did some testing between DAWs, and everything sounded pretty much the same. I (among others) think it's a myth that FL Studio's sound engine is worse than many others. I really don't think Logic would make much of a difference for Billain, it's already crisp clear.

don't think it would make much of a difference, the final mixdown is apparently not done in FL Studio, and FL by itself doesn't sound worse than Logic... Logic just has great effects out of the box, but I'm pretty sure Billain uses VST effects to replace the more horrible effects that come with FL Studio

@Ellmpson I don't mean it offensive (really I don't) but I wish people would think differently of FL Studio, it's just as good a DAW as the others. For some reason it has a really bad name, probably because it's easy to start with so a lot of crap comes from FL Studio. But not only does Billain work with it, so does (well, did) Spor. It's a sick and very good DAW. It just pisses me off FL has such a bad name. (Ableton user here btw ;))
@CallusDnb

Nah i know what you mean mate, most top producers use Logic or ableton, so its a surprise to find out it come from FL studio, some of my mates make better tunes than I do using fl, and im on logic. Billain has an acess virus and a sherman, and on top of that he is a sick creative producer, so this is what makes the tracks sick, i would however be interested to see how his tunes would sound if they were made through logic? Just a thought.
