The variety in this season of '87 was off the hook. Modern rock was finally making inroads. REM and U2 coming on strong. Leading the way for the Cure New order and Depeche Mode later on. It became the start of a transition time for pop radio.

LOVE these charts - thank you as always. Always fascinating to see what tracks didn't make it in the USA but did in the UK. Bee Gees You Win Again was a massive number 1 for 4 weeks in the UK and only peaks at 75 in the USA. And, as others have said Prince, Madonna and MJ at 3, 2 and 1 - the Trinity of 80s global pop (with of course Whitney and George Michael in the chart too!)
