I love the way Charli uses auto-tune. It's used in a way that compliments the imperfections and emotional tension in her voice. It's really cool how it's become such a signature part of her sound. Also impressive that she's able to make it sound so good live. Contrary to what people may think, you really need to have a lot of pitch control to be able to utilize auto-tune this way.
@samnelius
@samnelius 6 ай бұрын
i agree! she's very intentional about the ways she uses it, and it always pays off. i love her raw vocals too, but the added textures from autotune suit her voice soooo well.
@VergiI_Sparda
@VergiI_Sparda 6 ай бұрын
It's so dually symbolic, too, because SOPHIE's signature vocal style included heavy uses of autotune. It feels so intentional, especially with the incorporation of It's Okay to Cry. And it is! Because I am!

Well said and so true - a lot of pitch control and ~breath~ control. Charli's flow is legendary
@neonlost
@neonlost 3 ай бұрын
exactly she uses it how t-pain or cher did, or even a rapper like young thug (most rappers don't have the range/control to use it well though). it's used as a vocal fx not as a crutch. you have to have perfect control to hit the notes off and trigger it just right then do vocal glides up/down, like someone sliding up keys on a piano in key hitting all the right notes. people don't realize auto tune can be as an instrument.

@cannibalisticrequiem
@cannibalisticrequiem 2 ай бұрын
@emomu Nothing "happened", Charli is just singing about/discussing very human emotions that everyone feels, especially when they lose a loved one. For example when Charli sings, "You'd (Sophie) say, 'Stay for dinner', I'd say, 'No I'm fine' - Now I really wish I'd stayed", she's talking about a time when any of us have the opportunity to spend time with a loved one-- be it family member, friend, etc, and we'd pass on that moment we could share, not out of hate or spite, but often because we're "busy" and just figure "Oh we can just hang out next time" often without realizing we're not always guaranteed a "next time" because life or accidents happen so quickly that, that person we were just speaking to could be gone in an instant. Or when Charli sings "When I'm on stage, sometimes I lie, say that I like singing these songs you left behind", she's not saying it out of anger or annoyance, but out of a complicated feeling of genuinely enjoying the songs she wrote and worked on with Sophie, but at the same time feeling that bittersweet pain of thinking of the memories of those times and acknowledging that it does hurt sometimes to sing them because of how much they remind her of Sophie because she's still grieving that loss (Sophie literally passed only three years ago, and contrary to what some may think or say, three years is really not very long ago, so it's likely that Charli is still grieving that loss because grief has no time frame).

It's going to be hard to find another person like her. The conditions aren't the same anymore. SOPHIE had a real upbringing on 90s rave culture and IDM. These sounds were both cheesy and cutting edge. I listened to some of the same stuff around the same time so I can hear the influences plain as day. But now, IDM has flowed into all kinds of places, even in subtle ways.... and rave music has become so commercialized and pop ready. It's not going to be the same, newer producers are going to have such different reference points so obviously the output will be different too.

Powerful. Sophie was so loved, I wish we could know her thoughts on this tribute. Sometimes we push away the people closest to us. That bring out all those deep things we don't like being pointed out. But those are the most important parts of relationships. They show us so many sides of our complicated selves. To love is to have lost.

A mashup with it’s okay to cry x so I will happen and honestly I feel like it might by the most devastating hyperpop move to ever happen. Sophie and Charlie are two women who pioneered, without even intentionally doing so, and entire genre of music. I love them so much and miss Sophie a lot ❤ it’s okay to cry, so I cry
