Well Bill I have to admit, I have succumbed. I just signed up for Adobe Audition and it just seems....RIGHT! I started learning about DAW with Cool Edit Pro and Adobe Audition feels natural. It isn't Cool Edit but it is very similar. I was using Reaper but after working with Adobe it seems so familiar. Thank You for your help with getting me reaquainted.

You raised your digital interface to aim for -3 DB, if like me you are using a USB microphone (Blue Yet) is the equivalent to what you did to raise to -3DB just turning up the gain sensitivity on the mic itself? or using Audition to somehow increase in the programme itself. Currently what I have been doing in Audacity, speaking as per normal, which came out at about - 15 DB then used the ''normalisation'' plugin when editing to raise it to -3 DB.....from watching your video, what I'm currently doing is probably lessening the quality of my audio?

I’d like to ask if the Billings Clinic was an actual finished recording that you sent to your client? Did you re record or was this version the final version? If this was just a sample for this video; would you consider this recording as a finished recording? Another question I have is: could you provide a list of all equipment needed to start doing home voice overs? I remember watching one of your videos that covered this but a written list of specific equipment needed by model numbers would be great. I got out of working in radio back in 1983 because I saw that AM radio was dying as a source of employment and FM didn’t offer news reporters lots of opportunities. All my production was reel to reel 1/4 inch tape and razor blades. I’m still working in my late 60’s but would like to retire and do something home based rather than traveling. Maybe voice over work would be good for me but the tech is all changed from the reel and cart days. I used cassettes to interview politicians and alligator clips to send sound after unscrewing the phone receiver mouthpiece! Adobe audition looks kind of tricky. It looks like I could build a voice booth but would need materials and dimensions. Thanks

On my recordings, I hear a muffled sound, lacking in high end frequencies to make it clear to me and a customer. How can I get some eq in the sound?

Hi Bill; In this video you talk about trying to get the audio to stay at around the -3 DB level. I just started using Adobe Audition and my audio interface is a Focusrite Solo. With my gain turned up about as high as it can go while still staying in the green, I can't get my volume to read much over -15. Even doing so, I'm finding that I'm having to get closer to my microphone than I would have thought necessary. Am I doing something wrong?

Can you recommend the best plugins that you use and find helpful? Or even any types of plugins, not necessarily the specif one that can generally help with VO? I know a lot of people use things like DeEssers and Debreathers. I realize what you use may not work for everyone, but I'm curious to know what works for you so I can do more research to see if it can work for me too.

Those Whisper Rooms are spendy! I absolutely HATE paying a monthly subscription for software! I use Audacity. It may not be as professional as Adobe Audition but it's FREE! I remember when Adobe Audition was Cool Edit Pro. It seems everyone had the same bootlegged copy. I forget the guy's name that was on that bootlegged copy.

Hi Bill. Punch and Roll. EVERYBODY swears by it. I just cannot seem to fit replacement for the messed up phrase in the same spot without running over or being out-of-sync with the timing. Until I figure out a way to do it properly; what I do is open another audio file and record it to my satisfaction, copy and paste and carry on. For me that has been the most cost-efficient in terms of time. This way I'm not flubbing or screwing up in some other way because I'm not putting myself under the gun. For me, at least for now, it is the more relaxed and time efficient way to do it . Ok. Now. Go ahead and shake your head guys. (I'll master it eventually)

a lot of the information in this video is vague or incorrect, you clearly have a console emulation or some kind of dsp set up on the Apollo, clearly confusing people, -3 dB is way too hot for 16 bit 44.1, there's simply no reason to not record in 24 bit or even 32 bit since peaking was mentioned several times, you essentially have unlimited virtual headroom in 32 bit, I have a BA in recording arts, this is gonna cause more confusion than help for the uniformed, maybe VO workflow teaching is something you could do well but as a user of audition since it was cool edit and everything you taught pertaining to recording and processing of audio was in bad practice and the comments reflect this quite clearly with the general confusion and your complete lack of responses and YES you should know the ins and outs of your DAW, that's horrid advice sorry as a professional you shouldn't be ignorant of the tools you use everyday, those are not the basics it was your Jimmy rigged process you got lucky with by having a good recording environment, sorry it's just upsetting seeing someone who doesn't even know the basics teach they're process as the "basics" also further leading to skewered misinformed reviews and feedback pushing it further into obscurity and definitely contributing to the shrinking user base and support from Adobe, don't see this as hostile, this is an educated audio engineer criticizing you, this video most likely discouraged more folks than helped
