My dad loves "Everybody Dies." He played it when his mom died. At that time, they were “fighting”, and he didn’t even have the chance to say goodbye. That evening, I heard him playing this song in the living room, alone with himself. "everybody dies" was playing on repeat, and he kept crying over and over. Since then, I’ve associated this song with my grandmother. Every time I hear it, I think back to that night, and it makes me want to cry. It has never just been a song to me; it has been with me throughout my life since then. I’ll never forget my grandmother, and it’s only because of her. I love you, Billie, my dad does too, and so does the whole family. Thank you for everything you’ve done for us. Sometimes I feel like I shouldn’t be here anymore, but I try to hold on because I know I’m going to your concert. Your concert is saving my life right now-because of you, I’m still alive. Whenever I feel bad, I write to you on Instagram. You’ll never read it, but I feel like it’s out of me. I’m then glad that I told someone.

I cried so much listening to this because having suicidal thoughts even if it was just for a moment is destroying and I'm so glad that Billie made this song for people who are going through depression and are in the verge of suicide because it makes them feel that their unknown and alone at all... Edit: I actually didn't expect for this to at least have any liked but y'all omg 😭 I'm crying. I love y'all sm and I'm fine, I just wanted those people who felt left out and feel like their so alone know that they're not the one struggling... Stay safe y'all

I've literally been struggling with depression/suicidal thoughts and an existential lifecrisis for so long now and feelings like my life is useless and everyone is going to forget me anyway after I die and this song made me cry o my God "I just wonder why you'd wanna stay when everybody goes" "you are not alone, you are not unknown" it literally spoke my thoughts like someone finally understanding me and comforting me, I'm going through a hard time maturing and living on my own right now and this album couldn't come out a better time, thank you so much

Everyone will die and be eventually forgotten by everyone who's left, that's just reality of our world. Dying early via suicide doesn't seem like a solution to that fact.

@@Luisa-bo5hz good to know I'm not alone. As depressing as it is usually the thought that nothing matters and were all gonna die is the thought that keeps me going. I mean we're all gonna die and maybe nothing matters in the end so why care? Do whatever you wanna do, F it! Maybe life was never meant to be taken this serious as humans made it to be, maybe we were Just here to experience it, sadness and anger are part of life too I mean wouldn't life get boring if you were happy ALL the time? Bad times teach you something and it's all part of living, if you weren't sad you wouldn't appreciate the moments you were actually happy more. This thought also gives me confidence I mean if nothing matters in the end why would I care what people think of me I do whatever the f I want. I got more reasons like this why I keep going but I didn't mean to write a whole ass paragraph at least know you're not alone if you read all this 😬 if you're a nerd like me maybe search vids abt the term " optimistic nihilism" it helped me out a lot to follow this thinking pattern against thoughts like that

"I just wonder why you'd wanna stay if everybody goes, you'd still be alone." This line just hits you so hard if you're suicidal. Because you're literally questioning why do people wanna live because you don't. Because one day you'll be alone anyway and you wonder and wonder why do people treat suicidal people like they aren't humane. When the fact is, we, suicidal people are the one who's too humane. We question why taking our own lives is a sin when the pain that we feel is at the same time, a murder. This song is released at the perfect time because we're still in a pandemic where everyone is literally dying because of the virus and also murdered by people who have power. Everybody dies huh? Not the government I guess.

I love the subjectivity of true music and art. It can mean so many different things to different people. For me, I can see both the Ozymandias undertones, and “Secret Lion” connection. However, I also see an ongoing allegory for a breakup, or grieving of a lost relationship; “I just wonder why you'd wanna stay … If everybody goes” makes me think that these types of connections are futile, even to the point where it would make you want to “cry” at how hopeless the human condition is. Yet, at the same time, we still cling onto love, passions, and long to form meaningful bonds. Thus, that is why when we lose those people it crushes our world, and that is why “[she] can't get [it] back.” Once we lose people we care about it’s like we lose a piece of ourselves, and in a way we do when we really care for someone because we invest a whole lot into that person; love, time, and commitment. It makes you feel like you’re just waiting for your own passing to come along. Furthermore, that is why I find the last lyrics so beautiful: “You oughta know That even when it's time You might not wanna go But it's okay to cry And it's alright to fold But you are not alone You are not unknown” … Billie offers us solace, that despite everything, she’s still reaching out - to us - and trying. At the end of the day, that’s all any of us can do … Keep moving forward.
