Growing up, one of my best friends had severe Tourettes syndrome. He worked very hard to manage it. In his case, he would yelp uncontrollably, or burst out with a swear word. Physically, he would have a strong neck and body twitch. At first, school kids would make fun of him, but after they understood what he was going through, most classmates were tolerant, and often supportive. It really gave me an appreciation for the courage and strength that people with this condition go through. He has since gotten a PhD in Physics and is a professor.

I have touretts, but because I didn't have verbal tics such as swearing, people just thought I was weird. I would punch the air and crack my neck and stuff. It was a hard in between, having no sympathy, but I'm glad I wasn't known for it because I've found that so many people will just patronize you. I have ADHD Dyslexia and Autism aswell, but again, I appear just slightly off, so people don't realize what I'm actually struggling with. I have a high verbal vocabulary and a high reading comprehension so people think I'm just slow at reading or dumb, not dyslexic. People think I'm lazy or forgetful, not having ADHD, but most of all, people think I'm a butthole, rude, blunt, and many other things, but not Autistic. It sucks being brushed under the table as a weirdo, and it becomes your entire identity after a while. Working to undo that now in my young adult years. Anyway, hoping to make my channel something so I can show people what neurodivergence looks like beyond the stereotypes. Hopefully I'll get there one day.

Feeling bad for her isn’t necessarily asked for. Some people, if they were to choose, would keep their Tourette’s. You don’t grow and become your own person if you don’t have your individual struggles. A lot of people couldn’t be themselves, without it. So try not to feel bad. It can get in the way, but it does not hurt her. If anything, it actually helps her individually. Other people with this condition are not as fortunate. As he got older he learned to anticipate it and then camouflage. His weezing is now an audible swallow or a turn of his head to make the crunchy face. But the roll the eyes can happen at any point. He says it's a compulsion that he cant control, only anticipate. It used to get him in trouble with authorities as a brown skinned teen with authorities that werent aware of and didnt understand tourettes and it can be aggrivated in high stress situations.

I used to have pretty bad ones as a child but the biggest ones like this didn’t appear all the time, but when they would it would happen all day for a few days, until I chilled out and it would back to just being me screwing up my nails and fingers, wich no would notice.

The rxn from her mom when she was saying she bit Down on glass was classic. She looked like she was saying…. “She’s such a drama queen “

I use to do the eye wide open and would stretch my mouth and I could not stop. Also repeating myself an even amount of times in groups of 2s. It was like painful not to do ticks... only lasted a few years. I didn't even know I had then tell 20 years later when I read into them.

I think her tics are so cool, I’m like so fascinated by the fact it’s uncontrollable. It’s just crazy to me how the brain works, we think we’re in control and our brain is actually the one in control, we’re just the host.

I felt some head ticks coming from ADHD meds and it scared the s* out of me because I never ever experienced anything like that in my whole life. I'm gradually stopping the meds and the tics is going away... All I can say it's very embarrassing and uncomfortable to twitch your heard (or body) in strange positions all of sudden. It must be really hard to live w it for life

I also have Tourette’s .. I can suppress them pretty well, but when I get home I let them all out…. It’s frustrating

I understand Tourettes. It's a pain in the ass but nothing more. A cosmic joke that the universe plays on people. Harmless. Trust me.. It stops you from nothing in life, really. People that have it, by and large, are largely creative types I've found.
