Beautiful woman beautiful voice, but cant stop feeling how it was obvious she was fighting her own demons of addiction here! She worked so hard from one show to another , that she felt she needed something to sustain her! Sad really but made a mark in the music industry today as “ lady blues”
@Sarah-xw2ff3 күн бұрын
They say her boyfriend got her hooked on drugs so he could more easily get at her money. When she died she had money taped under her dress so he couldn't take that. Sad.

In 1959 I wrote a column in my college paper about Billie Holiday. I was 19. At the age of 16 I had asked for her new Columbia boxed L.P. set for my birthday present. My parents were mystified. She still absolutely knocks me out.

@@eternallife31ify they were probably both as high as a kite. Louis did weed all the time. I wonder how people back than were able to fake being sober so well? I just heard a version of this on the radio where Louis Armstrong sings too. 🔸 Google identified it as: Artist: Billie Holiday duet with Louis Armstrong Album: The Blues Are Brewin' Released 1969 I was disappointed when they chopped the end off of this tune, I wonder if Louis was about to sing❓.

I love to look at the details when I see her on film. Her right arm is always held a little bit out, so the hand can beat the time (she's about 1/4 beat slow on everything, which makes that voice shimmer like diamonds on a moonlit sea) and her left brow lifts slightly while the right eye squints, her signal that she's giving us everything - the Lord couldn't have made her more beautiful, and she couldn't have made music more fascinating, elegant and magical.
