I know everyone is disappointed that Axe hasn’t really been back in a meaningful way but it makes sense. Damian Lewis had moved back to London before his wife died. He now has a new girlfriend (his wife told her children before she died that she expected “Daddy” to have “lots of girlfriends” because “love is not possessive”). Lewis is also now writing songs, singing and recording albums (he is surprisingly good) so good for him. I would also like to give a shout out to Corey Stoll who is growing on me as Michael Prince. It is extremely difficult to step into a role like that when the original star has left but the main character is still beloved. Stoll is very compelling as Prince, subtlety revealing a sense of darkness which may or may not have always been there. At first, Prince came off as so righteous that the show almost sacrificed its premise. I wasn’t sure how the writers could portray Prince as a convincing villain but I give credit to Stoll for his take on the kind of moral ambiguity the show has been famous for. His sense of inevitability, his belief that he is superior to others in every way - including knowing what is “best” for them - it works. Axe was always more personable and likable. He was confident, without coming off as arrogant, and he was generally honest with himself about what he was doing. He also wasn’t interested in ruling the world - at least I never got that impression. Prince is more aloof by choice, rigid, uptight but while convincing himself of his own value to others. Both of these characters are “self made” billionaires, unlike Chuck who was born into wealth. I appreciate the fact that Prince is nonetheless a very different character than Axe. It would not have worked to bring in another character who merely served as an Axe substitute. It is also still likely that Axe will have a significant role to play in bringing this series to a conclusion.

@@TrueWodzu that could be. If Prince is elected, however, he would be able to pardon Axe & then Axe could return to the firm. Prince did help Axe escape prison and when Wendy et al visited Axe early in the season, he declined to join forces with them to defeat Prince and encouraged them to help Prince since he could not be defeated. Even Chuck could benefit if Prince wins - Prince clearly respects Chuck & as President, could appoint Chuck to be AG or a Supreme Court justice. This show appears to be confirming that the rich and powerful always get what they want. Either way, Axe will surely play an important role in how the series wraps.

Episode 8 might have been the worst in the series. I've said that three times this season alone. Somehow they outdid episode 7 in failing. Looks like episode 9 is another no show for Axe. I watched it twice and the only things that happened that were of any consequence were Prince impressing the kingmaker at that retreat in the woods when that woman centrist governor failed to and Prince fucking over his wife by ratting to the Chinese government about her friend's rescue. I can't remember any episodes being so boring/uneventful when Damian Lewis was the lead character. There weren't any real plot twists and the ending was so predictable. The whole idea of Prince running for president as an independent and Chuck and Prince's employees being so scared that he could win is pretty nonsensical. If he was running for the Democratic or Republican nomination, it would at least be realistic, but it's been 55 years since a 3rd party candidate even won a state. We all know what's going to happen. Somehow Chuck, Wendy, Axe, Taylor, Wags, and maybe a few others will do something that tanks Prince's presidential candidacy.
