if bradley beal was the exact same player but he was making $10M per year they wouldn't be as critical of his play. they seem to be overly critical because they viewed him through the lens as an overpaid failed #1 option - but he wont be a #1 in phoenix and the owner is the one paying the money, not them. so why does that context matter anymore? He wont have the ball in his hands down the stretch. Hes not a #1 option, or a #2 option. Did you watch the video. The context is not about him being #1 or #3 option. The context is throughout his career he has shown he's not a good spot up shooter, play making guard or a good defender. He's scorer which is great, but being the 3rd option, he needs to do those other things well because that's what's required him to do. The question here is this the right move to get better? There are other ways to get better. Like for example getting good wing defenders. Right now, they really don't have any. They don't necessarily need another all star to be better. They could get better by addressing needs.

Heat had Wade Lebron and Bosh spurs didnt but they got guys to take pay cuts etc GSW were underpaying steph but had other guys that were maxed then had KD almost max some paycut and steph and klay plus other highly paid players.. Toronto didnt have all max players and broke through with maybe 2 then lakers 2 bucks had middleton max giannis max and Jrue Holiday max then GSW had Klay max Steph Max and just maxed Poole straight after then Nuggets they had MPJ max Jokic Max and Jamal max then a ton of depth players and a 20mil player in gordon..

Suns have 2 first round picks from now until 2029 (2024,2026) they have 3 star players who have a history of getting injured. Durant is 35 years old and hasn't looked the same since the Milwaukee series. Booker and Beal are too similar in play stylen and both are under 6'6. They dont have a lead defender and the bench will be guys signed at league minimum contracts. If phoenix does not win within the next 2 seasons there is a good chance that the organization will be a dumpster for many years considering they traded all their 1st round picks for KD and are tied to max and super max contracts.

Phoenix had to do this. They’d have to fill out their roster the exact same way, regardless of doing this deal. This is basically Shamet and 6 seconds for Beal. CP3 wasn’t going to come back, regardless. The KD deal sealed their fate. Instead of having KD, Booker, and Shamet with a bunch of minimums, they get KD, Booker, and Beal with a bunch of minimums and whatever they get for or from Ayton.

As a Suns fan I know this isn't going to happen but to me the best use of Beal is how the Spurs used Manu Ginobili. Having him come off of the bench, still playing 32-34 minutes, to me would be the best use of Beal. It allows you to stagger Durant and Booker minutes so they always have at least some combination of Durant/Booker/Beal, it gives you a strong bench player who can get you points, maybe protects his body more. They also need to have an offense more similar to the Warriors, a motion based offense, so it's less iso focused. Booker and Durant are great iso players but they could make their lives easier running more motion. As a Suns fan, I can dream, it's about all we can do.

PHX fans better hope these guys start the season fully conditioned and ready to go because they are going to have to log a lot of minutes throughout the season, not to mention how injury prone Durant and Beal have become. They are going to have no role players that will be able to "spell" them for long periods of time off the bench. If they trade Ayton and get some good role players and size it might work out. What's comical is how a lot the media (not including these guys) are now crowing them as next season's NBA champions. As a Nuggets fan, I love it because I know it motivates the hell out of the Nuggets when the press has already began pushing them down the totem pole of the NBA's elite teams only a few weeks after dismantling every team they faced in the playoffs. I hope the media continues to overlook the Nuggets next season as well. Kendrick Perkins and Skip Bayless would pick a 16 year old AAU team to beat Denver if they had the opportunity. The media as a whole are a joke.

I guess I'm the only one who likes this move for Phoenix. They can now trade Ayton and get depth. We'll see how this plays out but to me Phoenix is a strong contender next season, and they gave up nothing (except a constantly hurt Chris Paul).

The salary cap is going up by another 75 million after next year. The Suns will be fine. The contracts for Booker, Beal, Durant will be underpaid contracts compared to guys making $60 million a year

Bill Simmons is just mad that he can't find a way to make a draft out of it. Ultimately what were their other options. Cut Paul and sign him for the minimum? Chris Paul who is always injured in the playoffs, Landry Shamet who was pretty much unplayable except for game 4 I believe and a non tax payers MLE isn't moving the needle. I'd rather have Beal. You can argue that a better player could be had if they are going to pay such a high salary, but what top 20 player are you getting for Shamet and Paul? When you look at what the Cavs paid for Mitchell and what Phoenix paid for Beal I don't see how this can't be but an A+ trade

i just think the upgrade is worth the price in the first couple of years of this massive contract just because i prefer Beal taking those open shots Okogie and Craig were taking. I know that the defense will force whoever the 4th/5th guy will be in the lineup to take those shots next season anyway but there were so many times the Suns missed having the third option when CP3 was hurt. And sure Beal is more of a scorer than a shooter but I'm sure there will be plenty of times he will be setting the offense and producing catch and shoot opportunities for Booker and Durant. Health is my biggest fear with the squad, not fit

This years playoffs showed the importance of defense. The Heat, Lakers and Celtics came in with great defensive teams and Denver turned it on in the playoffs. Who is this Phoenix team plan on stopping? How does this help them stop the Jokic Murray 2 man game in the last 5 minutes of a game?

Firstly, I don't think Booker is that good. He can score, still struggles with ball pressure and realistically he was just on a tear in the playoffs and it didn't regress until late in the series when he crashed hard. I don't think Payne is a legit postseason rotational piece, Beal will be a better shooter with less attention and demand for shot creation, but everybody has a shooter. Ordinarily I'd say 35 is the tail end of a guy's prime but KD seems like he aged fast. Really struggled the last couple postseasons, would like to see that turn around but I wouldn't bet on it. Not to mention Durant is probably the only good defender in this core, plus you don't know how many games you're gonna get out of any of these guys. So, ultimately, I don't think this is a contender in the west.

Yeah even though he looked great after the serious injury when he first got healthy again on Brooklyn after that he's constantly getting little injuries all the time and seems like he's just had too much wear and tear at this point, too many serious injuries. I wouldn't count on KD to even play more than 60% of his games from now on. Just try to have him healthy for the playoffs.
