Hello ASL Heroes!!! Hey, I could really use your help. If you’ve enjoyed having access to an expert in ASL you can help me continue my work for you. A small monthly donation from you would instantly make a big difference here at the studio because teachers don’t earn much and I could use some help paying for server and domain hosting for Lifeprint.com. Right now you can help out a humble (not to mention kind, caring, generous, compassionate, helpful, friendly, fair, and hard-working) ASL teacher -- just go here and a few clicks later you too will be a true “ASL Hero!” www.paypal.com/cgi-bin/webscr?cmd=_s-xclick&hosted_button_id=64QMBRBXQSV6G Thanks! - Dr. Bill p.s. Want to have your very own USB drive with four semesters worth of ASL instruction (that’s the equivalent of two years of colleges classes) for just $79.95? See "SuperUSB" in the ASLUniversity bookstore at: lifeprint.com/bookstore/bookstore.htm Take care and love to you all. :)

For the lessons you provide within each unit, how much time should be spent on each lesson before progressing to the next. I appreciate that you've made this information available. I'm hearing but I've been wanting to learn ASL for sometime now. I came across a KZbin couple called Sign Duo, a video showing the difficulty and frustration for deaf people going for food through a drive thru. Inspired me to learn and your name is all over Google when searching ASL. I came across this site and have emerged myself in your information but I want to pace myself. Thanks again sir.

Too many variables here to cover in a brief answer. Some people invest five hours or more per lesson www.lifeprint.com/asl101/lessons/lessons.htm clicking on everything, reading everything, coming back to KZbin to watch the videos in the master play list kzbin.info/aero/PL6akqFwEeSpiLwRFA3ZvuOWMwPXwI7NqA Others just watch the lesson videos. My suggestion is to start watching the master playlist and then go study the lesson that most closely corresponds with where you are in the playlist.

If somebody were to ask me what my parent's names are, would signing "MY-PARENTS-TWO-MOTHER" and then their names get the point acrost that I have two moms? Or is there a specific sign for that case?
@sign-language
@sign-language 3 жыл бұрын
Your method would work fine. Or in context you could just sign "I TWO MOM" and then tap twice on your non-dominant index finger of the non-dominant horizontal "V" hand and spell the first mom and then tap twice on the the middle finger of the non-dominant "V" hand and spell the second mom's name. Instead of signing parents as MOM+DAD you can just do MOM on one side of the chin and then the other. (Thus it becomes MOM+MOM and would be voiced as either "parents" or "moms.")

ASL paragraphs with no words? Do you perhaps have an example such as the time code in 00:00 format of what you are referring to? In regard to two-way conversations, if you haven't yet seen it you might enjoy this video: kzbin.info/www/bejne/qpeci5Wlq8p-r5Y

Why does RIGHT and SISTER have the same hand gesture when putting both hands together?
@sign-language
@sign-language 4 жыл бұрын
Actually "SISTER" (long ago) started off as GIRL + SAME. (Using the "alike" version of "same" -- see: kzbin.info/www/bejne/bZjWZaqgqpWbedU ) Then later SISTER mutated into the current version. So, SISTER isn't actually based on RIGHT -- it is based on an older less used version of SAME and then mutated into the version that looks like the sign RIGHT but has nothing to do with the sign RIGHT (other than sharing the handshape). For a bit more info, see: www.lifeprint.com/asl101/pages-signs/s/sister.htm

@@sign-language thank you. Very cool to hear that from a teacher. I just keep trying. I need to keep studying so I can remember as much as I can. I need to watch over and over. its hard to follow when signing is fast and following finger spelling it hard for me. I will try my best to get better. Does it take a long time to be good at ASL. I am still kinda slow at signing.

Tip: For best results include a time code when asking questions about the videos. Why? Because it helps people to quickly find the section of the video about which you are asking.
