Dad left me 40 years ago Jan 15,1984. This song for all of us who lost our dads, I just turned 21, now 61. Enjoy parents, they're not forever. Thanks Billy

😢my beautiful amazing son died at Christmas he was only 28 never been in trouble never took drugs. He had a massive heart attack and I am devastated I am disabled and he was my world my everything. The pain is unbearable the loss is like no other. This song and the James blunt song Monsters is what will be played at his funeral which is even more unbearable because I don't have the money to cremate my beautiful boy . So thank you Billy for making such a heart felt song so meaningful and always makes me cry 😢and now my mum is in hospital for end of life care. I would love to hear you make a song for mums. Take care Billy From Richard.

Listen to this song - speechless. With a lump in the throat. Billy Bragg's single most powerful work, imo.

I saw him play this in Chicago in 1991. There was not a dry eye in the house. It was like a church. Love you Billy

An incredibly beautiful song that's very special to many of us, me included. No-one does this type of thing better than the English. Thanks for uploading this poignant gem.

I can't get through even the first line of this song without sobbing. I've lost so many people, all of my family. Why did I listen to this again today? Dammit, Billy.
