I helped sell him a John Deere mower a few years ago in Greensboro. He came up to the front counter and I said, “Billy ‘Crash’ Craddock!” He looked surprised that I knew who he was. I asked him how he got started in the music industry and we had a good long talk. A very nice and humble man.

This is great! As a 12 year old boy in 1974 I remember my mother and her friends singing this song. It has always stuck with me. I think between "Rub It In" and a poster of Burt Reynolds on a bear skin rug my mom must have been in heaven.

On this day in 1974 {August 24th} Billy 'Crash' Craddock performed "Rub It In" on the Dick Clark ABC-TV Saturday-afternoon program 'American Bandstand'... At the time the song was it it's first of three weeks at #16 on Billboard's Hot Top 100, that would also be it's peak position on the chart, and it spent 16 weeks on the Top 100... And one month earlier on July 28th, 1974 it reached #1 {for 2 weeks} on Billboard's Hot Country Singles chart... Between 1971 and 1989 he had forty-one records on the Hot Country Singles chart, nineteen made the Top 10 with three* reaching #1, besides the above "Rub It In", his other two #1 records were "Ruby Baby" for 1 week in January 1975, and "Broken Down In Tiny Pieces" for 1 week in January 1977... Billy Wayne 'Crash' Craddock celebrated his 78th birthday two months ago on June 16th {2017}... * He just missed having a fourth #1 record when "Easy As Pie" peaked at #2 in 1975...

this song hit #16 on the billboard pop charts in 1974 and #1 on the country charts... billy "crash" craddock is the man once billed as the next elvis but couldnt make it in rock,,,his first song peaked at 94 on the billboard top 100 and hes next effort didnt even make the top 100...so he left music and went back into construction...after a few yrs he was back with this smash....
@mattydminus57174 жыл бұрын

He would sing while they hung Sheetrock, he told my dad, you wait I am going to be on tv and radio, I am going to hit big in country music. Before you knew it. My dad seen him on tv singing. It's been a pretty long time when this song was released and I (a Bavarian as fuck) recorded it on my tape machine. A great sond and I tried to translate it. And everything was good but "Put it on my back, on my for you roaring sack and on my always nonense twaddling chin" I did'nt understand these lyrics (bad english and no headphone) but I wanted to have some sense in what I sang. And really: we played this song about 20 years with MY lyrics. Remember: we had no internet and nobody knew this song!
