I discovered Billy in the 80's when I was a teen, and soon had every one of his albums. It sounds clichè, but nearly every one of his songs spoke to sad, lonely, teen aged me. It was comforting to know I wasn't the only one going through all that lonely heartache. I thought, "He must be following me around taking notes.", because I'd suffer some great heartache, and before long, he'd release a song about that exact thing lol. Even now, all these years later, his music still speaks to me. I still no all the words to all of his songs, and sing along whenever I hear them.

She said she'd meet me in the bar At the Plaza hotel Wear a jacket and a tie What's the occasion She just smiled and she wouldn't say why So here I am standing waiting in the lobby Sweating bullets in this stupid old suit And when she sees me, she busts out laughing You're a sad sight honey but you look so cute, and I don't want to be alone anymore I was checking you out I was just making sure No, I don't want to be alone anymore And I want you tonight Although you hurt me before It didn't matter that I felt like a fool 'Cause I forgot when she walked through the door I said I'm sorry but she said it was cool And I don't want to be alone anymore It's so confusing choosing sides In the heat of the moment Just to see if it's real It's so erotic having you Tell me how it should feel But I'm avoiding all the hard cold facts That I've got to face So ask me just one question When this magic night is through Could it have been just anyone Or did it have to be you And will you still be saying I don't want to be alone anymore I was checking you out I was just making sure No, I don't want to be alone anymore And I want you tonight Although you hurt me before It didn't matter that I felt like a fool 'Cause I forgot when she walked through the door I said I'm sorry but she said it was cool And I don't want to be alone anymore But don't you know that it's wrong It's wrong, it's wrong But like the song Being caught by the wink of an eye I can't be sure we'll get along But I'm willing to try As long as you can tell me I don't want to be alone anymore I was checking you out I was just making sure No, I don't want to be alone anymore And I want you tonight Although you hurt me before It didn't matter that I felt like a fool 'Cause I forgot when she walked through the door I said I'm sorry but she said it was cool And I don't want to be alone anymore

In this pop tune from Billy Joel’s “Glass Houses” album (1980), a man nervously waits to reunite with his estranged girlfriend in the lobby of the Plaza Hotel. He’s unsure if he wants to rekindle the romance if she is just looking for someone to warm her bed. According to Joel’s drummer, the line, “But like the song, being caught by the wink of an eye,” refers to Jan Bradley’s 1963 R&B hit “Mama Didn’t Lie,” which contains the lyrics, “They’re wrong to think I will be caught by the wink of an eye.” [🎵”HE MAY BE RIGHT… 🎼 HE MAY BE WRONG FOR ALL WE KNOW‼️”🎶] Located in Midtown Manhattan, the Plaza Hotel is a luxury hotel and apartment building that has long been one of New York City’s iconic locales. It served as the setting for several famous motion pictures, including “Home Alone 2 : Lost in New York” (1992). 💙🎶💛🎬💜

One theory about this song. Maybe the woman being referred to is Leyna who is the subject of the previous track on the album (All for Leyna). Maybe after letting the singer down in the previous track Leyna came to the conclusion she didn't want to be alone anymore and therefore asked him to meet her.
@iialarcon30 Жыл бұрын
I always loved All for Lenya and thought about these two women being one and the same. Unfortunately Leyna doesn’t sound like that at all, she gave the protagonist a one night stand (she gave me one night, that’s all it was) and certainly didn’t seem hurt by the protagonist (and I want you tonight although you hurt me before). I love the intense and desperate vibe in all for Leyna - it’s one of my favs although it makes me a bit sad.
