Lyrics:
You have to learn to pace yourself
Pressure
You're just like everybody else
Pressure
You've only had to run so far
So good
But you will come to a place
Where the only thing you feel
Are loaded guns in your face
And you'll have to deal with
Pressure
You used to call me paranoid
Pressure
But even you cannot avoid
Pressure
You turned the tap dance into your crusade
Now here you are with your faith
And your Peter Pan advice
You have no scars on your face
And you cannot handle
Pressure

Classic song. Billy Joel is one of the greatest lyricists in Rock history. I love the line: "Now here you are in the ninth, two men out and three men on. Nowhere to look but inside where we all respond to pressure." Those of us who have been alive awhile have all been there where others are depending on us and the thought of blowing it is terrifying. We just have to put the fear aside and do what we need to do.

Yup. The longer I live, the more I realize that it does not matter how nice your ship is, just if it is still top side up or not. There are far too many shipwrecks in sight. A lot of it is knowing, as this song says so well, how to handle pressure.
@Knatterbart
@Knatterbart 3 жыл бұрын
But what does he mean when singing about two men out and three men on? I don't get it
@stephenmark6781
@stephenmark6781 3 жыл бұрын
@@Knatterbart It is a baseball reference. Really only makes sense if you know the sport. There are nine innings in a game and three outs in each inning, so this is your last chance. Three men on means that three of your teammates have reached base successfully, setting you up to either win or lose the game for your team, to be either the hero or the scapegoat: the very definition of "pressure."

I haven't seen this since I was a kid. The combination of striking images and a heavy rotation on Mtv burned every moment into our brains. Seeing it now is nostalgic yet perpetually relevant. We're always captives of our own realities. The most compelling part for me was the trail of paper from the kid up to the old man, summing up our lives in one bleak stroke. APPLAUSE. Wow, that's brilliant.

This song is so insanely good, so is this video, and so is this album...just banger after banger after banger. Such a win to use it in The Boys too (great show!), and good on all of you who came here because of that. I recommend going and checking out the rest of his stuff if you haven't already, so many gems in his catalogue. I've listened to him forever (since 1977, when I was a little tiny kid), and this song is STILL my very favorite one to see him do live...he still does it in the original key too and still sounds absolutely fucking awesome.

All your life is Channel 13 Sesame Street What does it mean? I'll tell you what it means Pressure Pressure Don't ask for help You're all alone Pressure You'll have to answer To your own Pressure I'm sure you'll have some cosmic rationale But here you are in the ninth Two men out and three men on Nowhere to look but inside Where we all respond to Pressure Pressure All your life is Time magazine I read it too What does it mean? Pressure I'm sure you'll have some cosmic rationale But here you are with your faith And your Peter Pan advice You have no scars on your face And you cannot handle pressure Pressure, pressure One, two, three, four Pressure

This is one of my favorite Billy Joel songs. I was the same age as the kid in this video, and the whole thing with the TV swallowing him up really unnerved me more than it should have ... Great synthesizers lines with a baroque feel. Joel's vocals are perfect and also incredibly full of the "power of pressure."
