He cowrote this song with Freddie Wexler that also produced it. Wexler’s wife was able to get the two to meet. Wexler asked Joel if he had any unreleased music and Joel sent him a cd. A bit later Wexler sent him this song and they worked on it. Joel asked him when they finished who they were going to get to sing it and he said “you”. Joel did say that when he first saw it that he could’ve written this song at any point cause it was like the words came from him. He later told Wexler that it was like fate that they met. This is his first single in 17yrs and the music video he did for it was the first music video in 30yrs. He quit songwriting in 1993 cause (according to him) he couldn’t be as good as he wanted to be and it was driving him crazy which in turned drive everyone around him crazy so he stopped by t kept performing. One song of his I don’t see many (if any) react to is “You’re Only Human (Second Wind)”. He donated proceeds from the song to mental health awareness cause he himself had issues. He tried killing himself in the 70s. In the song he stuttered while recording and wanted to fix it. Everyone in the room said to keep it cause it fit what he was saying “nobodys perfect”. The song is basically saying “did I wait too long to make music again?”.

Good reaction, Man. Please, if you haven't, react to the official video. It's a visual trip through The 1970s, 1980s, 1990s, then 2024. It's a new old classic. Take care, Bud.

The title of this song is a direct reference to the lyric of Famous Last Words from the 1993 River Of Dreams album which was, at the time, Billy's farewell. That lyric, on paper, apoears at the start of the video for Turn The Lights Back On (not the lyric video, which this is). The best version of this song is the live version, in a lower key, by Billy at this year's Grammys. Magic. The lyric has multiple meanings: it pictures different sorts of relationship simultaneously. Two lovers. Billy and music. Billy and his fans... Apparently the song is primarily Wexler's work. Which means Wexler is a freaking genius at stylistic mimicry...and persuasion! He seems to have achieved for real what Alex Keaton did in that old Family Ties episode, coaxing the old blues player out of retirement. I have rarely loved a song so instantaneously as I did this one...

There's a music video for it and it's equally and with notes at the piano for "famous last words" As for the video its Astounding Amazing Stunning Beautiful Touch Tear enduring Unforgettable And then there the last 60 seconds of that video

Famous Last Words was the last song on his last album. Turning from that to a blank page was to symbolize his absence since.

It's writer's block, he is talking about writer's block. The writers block that made him stop writing music, or enjoying writing music, hearing his own voice.

WRONG. The lyrics were penned by a cowriter and it’s a love song to a woman. You’re dumb too. I need to get outta here, this video is giving me a headache.

It's not actually 100% his write. It's a co-write with three others, one of which is Freddy Wexler. He did most of the work on this. Yes, Billy Joel could definitely write something like this, he just didn't write it all in this case.

Listen to the Howard Stern interview. Sounds like 95% is his.

The music is all his. Wexler took some of Billy's demos that he never recorded, which is where the song came from.
