You're right in that it wasn't 1985, but it wasn't '85 either - it's 1984.

This is not 1985. The special midsummer nights tube was in 1983 June 24th. Remember it well as I lost my cherry that night :-)

Dont understand what SAW have to do with Billy Mackenzie. He had a great voice and attitude. In a way he was too good. Too intense for most ppl, like Kirsty Maccoll he's another great lost British ARTIST who doesn't have anywhere near the respect or appreciation he deserves/d.

And as for sales speaking for themselves, some of us think there's more to music than a heap of drivel from cheesy manufactured outfits topping the charts. And thank Christ Billy did too. High selling does not necessarily mean good. The man for the most part made music that HE felt had merit, rather than merely that would be a commercial success. And for that many of us are damned grateful. Again, thank Christ Billy never did hook up with SAW. The idea!

@sgtrayelwood brother/uncle/whatever relation. On the few brief occasions I've been acquainted with Billy's family, they have shown me nothing but friendship and warmth, and the least I can do is respect their feelings if any of them are looking in. I didn't filter your comment out because I don't have a problem with it per se, just the points I've already made several times over. If my filtering comments on my channel bothers you particularly, there are thousands of others that

Does anyone know where the Tube clip is of The Associates singing Those First Impressions and the girl gives Billy a piece of chewing gum?

@sgtrayelwood - "you can lead a horse to water but you cant make it drink." I wouldn't worry about justifying yourself mate. Scott Walkers another underappreciated genius if you havent heard him (which I'm guessing perhaps you have) lol.x

@matelot95 It seems to have disappeared - perhaps a user account got the chop. I'll see if I can put it up myself shortly.

Well, if you truly think that out of dozens upon dozens of songs written/co-written and recorded by Billy, only FOUR were any good, then might I suggest that you, erm, find someone else to listen to, who maybe floats your boat a bit more? Because as it happens, some of us happen to love the vast majority of his songs. That's why we're, like, fans. If we didn't like his music we'd look elsewhere.

@sgtrayelwood or anywhere else. As for filtering comments, I choose to do this in cases where I find - or I think others might find - a comment particularly offensive, or just downright pointless or irrelevant. I have read some utterly foul and hateful things written about Billy on other YT channels and elsewhere on the net. None of that's going to make it onto my channel. I'm aware that some of Billy's relatives sometimes look at YT. I don't think they need to read shit about their

@sgtrayelwood you are free to post on without the dictatorial censorship that you encounter here. ;-) And I reckon that's quite enough rambling out of me for half nine in the bloody morning! Got a wean (baby to the uninitiated) to look after. Good day! :-)

I have heard his songs there were 4 good ones Party Fears, Club Country, 18 Carrat Love, and another take me to the girl I think it was called. SAW, they did Dead or Alive, Princess, Mel and Kim all good Artists. Billy never bettered SULK which I have, he was a great artist but needed commercial catchy material. Another good producer is John Farrar he did Olivia Newton John.

@bumblebert SAW have/had nothing to do with Billy, thank Christ. Only that somebody here suggested he should have been produced by them, an idea I find frankly ludicrous, and said so.

I'm sorry, mate; Trevor Horn I could maybe see your point, but SAW aka The (S)hit Factory? You are having a laugh. Every frigging record they churned out sounded identical. And Billy did NOT need good songs. Either alone or in collaboration he was a superb song writer, not just of lyrics but music too, and if you haven't worked that out then you clearly haven't heard many of his songs.

You can suggest a thousand producers that Billy *should* have worked with, but it's all rather pointless. He wrote/co-wrote the music he did, with whomever, which was produced by whomever, and ATEOTD you either like it, or ya don't. And that's all there really is to it!

Why didnt Stock Aitken and Waterman pick him up and write him some good songs and produce them, he needed good songs this guy. And yes Stock Aitken and Waterman the best producers of the 1980s appart from Trevor Horn, he could have wrote and produced for Billy.

Na I am serious they were the best producers of the 1980s their sales speak for themselves, Trevor Horn he did Dollar etc, and Steve Levine of Culture Club another good Producer Mckenzie should have hooked up with one of these.
