I heard this for the first time for Horatio's Drive, too. I have it as an MP3 file. Came by here because I woke up this morning with the song going through my head.

I remember. I listened to Dr. Demento every Sunday night. He also played quite a few Billy Murray recordings.

My mother told me that the gramophone her parents had, the horn was underneath the turntable. A person had to be careful not to wind the spring too tight or the spring would pop. Your gramophone had very good sound quality. It appears you spent much time getting this old gem to excellent working order. The sound, for its time period, is magnified very well. The antique key looked very familiar in the keyhole of the gramophone. We had one very similar on a chain with other antique keys.

Very cool... and a pretty Sonora phonograph as well!

According to record historian Jim Walsh, Murray was a car enthusiast, to put it mildly. He must have had a ball recording this.

@103056mhg This is one of my all time favorite's as well. Unfortunately this is the only copy of the Victor version that I have in my possession. Should I happen to acquire a duplicate I would consider it. In the meantime "Happy Hunting", and thanks for watching. Victrolaman

This tune inspired a wonderful Hal Roach-Harold Lloyd short from 1920 that can also be found on this site in a beautiful pristine print.
