Making great progress on the Nova, I had a high volume/high pressure oil pump with a ten quart oil pan on my 428cj in my 67 Fairlane GTA and it had the same problem until put restrictors in the block. Would have 100psi cold and even up to temp would still be 85 but slow down to idle after a pull and it would drop to 25 until the restrictors fixed it, would still drop from 85 but only to 65. Might want to check the bypass in that oil pump to make sure it’s not sticking causing low pressure and also the tolerance in the main bearings could be a little too open as well causing low pressure as well. Just tossing out ideas. I’m sure y’all have it under control though. Looking forward to seeing the nova put in work💪🏻

Steve Morris just did a video about oil pressure on the 540 he built for cleetus. Changed main bearings for tighter clearance and put restrictors at the turbos.

Hands down better than any network TV show by far!! On the oil pressure issue, it seems that the oil is not returning to the pan fast enough causing starvation. I've seen issues with the lower oil return passages in the cylinder heads being blocked by the head gaskets return passages not lining up, too small, or just plain not being there at all. All the oil is staying in the valve covers and just enough returns to the pan thru the push rod holes. Might be something to look at next time the valve covers are off.

Hey guys love the content!! For the oil pressure isue I often run an extra qrt of oil when I use a hig pressur pump so when the top end fils with oil I still have 2" of oil in the pan. Windage should not be a issue since the pump will clear out the excess oil as soon as it starts

You've probably got this suggestion many times and have prior experience with your DART block, but low volume-High or low pressure oil pump with priority oiling. If you use a high volume pump it will load the top end and stare the pump (oil pressure drop). maybe trap doors like you think but while off check the pump. It is so good to see family and friends enjoy yourselves.

Need some pan or block restrictors to help with the oil pressure, but I would talk to your engine builder first those big blocks are a different animal. When I ran a 540 BBC we had about 130 psi and the top of the run and when I pulled the chutes it would drop 80 psi. If I remember right we used 70 weight Oil with a pretty deep sump. But yes suspension looked good got a lot separation and if you decided to every go big tire you have the car to do it. You and big Rob have done an awesome job putting it together. But make sure you nut and bolt everything before you beat the crap out of it on the streets. Stay safe and if you every need any help let me know, we are neighbors.

Steve Morris was dealing with this on Cleetus’s El Camino. With the dart block the main tolerances grow when it’s warm and lose quiet a bit of pressure. He changed the main bearings only and got the oil pressure back up. Not sure what yours is set up as but just throwing that out there. Not saying your wrong by any means.

We had a similar oil pressure problem on our dart small block, put restrictors in to limit oil to the top end and improved the oil pressure
