The very reason I bought a Helix LT four years ago ... to replace my flood damaged Pearce BC-1 that I've had since 1992. Billy's right; the tone and feel are spot on. One of the best pieces of gear I've ever bought.

I'm a guitar player, but I played bass as my primary instrument years ago. Billy was one of my biggest influences, as was Paul Gilbert for guitar...Mr. Big had a huge impact on my life. I've been using the Helix with Mrs. Smith for about a year and a half now and I love it. But can I say that THIS preset is the one I got most excited about? I absolutely LOVE it for playing bass. This is going to be all over my EP! Thank you!

I had one of those Pearce preamps and it was the BEST! Used in conjunction with the Ashley SC50 compressor the tone was like a tank rolling down Main Street!

I have a Firehawk FX and it's so badass! Of course, I would have loved to have purchased a Helix, but I'm actually a bass player, so a processor with such a six-string focus and advanced capabilities wasn't necessary for me. However, I may just accidentally buy a Helix in the next year. ;)

The Helix will work with any type, size shape etc guitar - 6 strings, 4 strings, 12 strings, 5 etc it don't matter. There are 9 or so modeled bass amps with some (like the Pearce) that have multiple inputs to choose from. So really 13 amps and all kinds of cabinets and effects to choose from. Many bass players use Helix. I have used Line6 gear for a long time and with the Helix they finally got everything right. It sounds so good and responds in every way just like the amp it is modeling - finally.... Getting Billy's endorsement is a testament to that.

Can I ask the obvious here? If the Pearce is SO treasured - as it clearly IS - then WHY isn't anyone just MAKING THE PEARCE PREAMP ANYMORE? I KNOW Dan Pearce is many years out of the biz, but CERTAINLY, there must be SOME amp manufacturers that would GLEEFULLY buy the name and the tech!

If he thinks the Helix is so good why is he going out touring with an additional 2 amps and a cabinet? When of those sounds can just be modelled with the helix?

Because the speaker is the physical thing producing the sound. You can't fool the laws of physics, which means you still need a power amp (I assume he only uses the amps for clean uncolored power, into the power amps), and a speaker cab to get the proper feel/sound of an "amp in the room" as opposed to a miced amp. If you ever try a miced amp through monitors/in ears/a PA you would probably see how different it it, regardless if that "miced amp" is modeled or not. Something like Helix->power amp->cab is still way more convenient than using an amp with several pedals/pieces of rack gear that all need power/switching and routing (that can go wrong, cause hum/buzzing etcetera). Of course running directly is even more convenient, but then it becomes a compromise sound wise if you prefer the sound/feel of a real cab.
