Billy's father is a very well-known Bluegrass picker and Billy grew up playing from as young of an age as when a guitar fit in his hands. At single digits in age, he was playing with much older people live in front of the mic. Billy also used to play with his father and still does regularly to this day. He has taken a bunch of styles and added them to what he already knew about Bluegrass. If you look at the videos of his father playing similar solos, that's where it came from. Billy was also influenced by a large number of other musicians.

This song is a true story. His uncle was pulled over on a traffic stop in Detroit, MI and they found a baggie with minute dust of a substance in it. When they tested it the test popped positive for methamphetamine and he ended up catching a 20 year sentence for possession. Or so I have been told by some people who know Billy (in front of him and he never said anything to contest the story).

If you like Billy Strings, give Hank III a listen. He is the grandson Hank Williams Sr (one of, if not the best country and western singers) and son of Hank Williams Jr. He sounds like his grandpa, but has his own sound. Crazed country rebel would be a good first song of his to listen to.

Clogging is a style of dance. Came from London and is a deep rooted dance from Appalachian mountains Blugrass music. Banjo from the African slaves. Progressed with more strings. Cotton eyed Joe and the fiddle was a gift from Europe. Sad poverty in alot of those hills. Soil was hard to produced crops. Songs passed down without it being written. Please watch Song Catcher. If it wasn't for your part if Eugene we might not have rock and roll. Britain has amazing music history and excellent musicians. BTW we love your channels! You blokes are great.

I think you fellows have kinda missed the boat on this one. Perhaps it's a cultural thing for the misunderstanding, but in the US midwest and other rural areas, amphetamine and opioid addictions are a major problem and are responsible for thousands of deaths. I don't believe the song is supposed to be a good-time celebration of getting high or a bitch about the heavy-handedness of the "man” Rather, although the blue grass tune is upbeat, the lyrics are quite sober observing how addiction can ruin a life. Billy Strings nails it.
