Can you just imagine how the dad must’ve felt waking up? He was asleep one minute, in his eyes, and his daughter was still small. Then he wakes up and it’s actually 6 years later and his daughter is all grown up and he missed all of those years and she had to fight and survive by herself, apart from Tuk Tuk.

But she wasn't really a villain of the story to me. Or at least, she had her own reasons. She did what was told to her and what she thought was good for her tribe (like every other tribe at the time). And i've seen the misconception a lot of people make-that the movie is teaching you about forgiving those who hurt you in the past (which sometimes isn't possible and might even be bad for you, i agree) but to me, it was about learning how to trust again after your trust has been failed before. Otherwise you'd just close yourself up and it wouldn't really be good for you :( I understand why people think the message is forgiving those who hurt you though, the movie didn't really make it clear enough.

Raya and The Last Dragon has its own flaws. I’m still very conflicted about the fact that Raya and her former friend have been able to reconcile so quickly towards the very end of the film, even though they had been mortal enemies ever since the incident tore apart their nation. The former friend hasn’t done anything to regain Raya’s trust back, and I find that undeserving of any type of forgiveness since let’s be honest around here…she has caused quite a lot of damage that drove Raya to restore everything in its original order once again. I think that part was way too rushed for me. And also, Raya hadn’t been able to venture out a lot more per se, that felt a little bit rushed too. Also I think the water dragon could’ve been voiced by a different Southeast Asian/Asian actor. I mean, I have nothing against Awkwafina here as a voice actress, but let’s just say that she sounds a bit annoying from time to time especially when she tells jokes here and there throughout the duration of the entire film. At least the little boy who is Raya’s companion is pretty good as a character in the film and so is the baby. Anyways, the graphics, the visuals are just amazingly outstanding especially towards the ending part where there’s this majestic rainbow overhead. And so I was like Oh My Gosh. Disney definitely took that into serious consideration. Maybe the water dragon could’ve been animated a bit more differently as well, and it’s clear that Disney hasn’t moved past like the googley eyes phase for any of their animated characters, really. Overall, Raya and the Last Dragon is phenomenal, although, like I said, she’s got her own minor blemishes on the surface. At least us Southeast Asians feel represented in movies like this more often than usual. So yeah. Thanks Disney. Gonna be watching more of your movies. They’ve been a part of my childhood since.

I feel like if it was a show instead of a movie, a lot of things could have been less rushed and more detailed and explained. Like the tribes, it would have been nice if we could have explored them and their culture a bit more! I still like the movie now though, all these flaws are minor to me and they don't stop me from enjoying the movie~

I really loved this movie but I know it would've been better fleshed out as a show to see the different parts of Kumandra (idk how to spell it lmao) but it definitely was a step in the right direction for this type of movie. Any noodle. #Bingers: Totoro, Spirited Away, Howl's Moving Castle #Bingers: A Goofy Movie, An Extremely Goofy Movie, Atlantis the Lost Empire, Oliver and Company

I really loved watching your reaction. I also love the inner message of the movie, and after only watching it once it was nice to watch another perspective. Trust is something I wish we could do more of, but it's an endless cycle when others around you can't do the same. However, I could not stand the modern jokes, especially from Sisu. They pulled me clean out of any form of immersion. A dragon banished for years coming back and talking about putting their purchases on credit? It was just more cringe than funny at certain parts, but the overall value of the movie did shine through. It just had some faults.

Billy: She’s into you, yeah. Me: You caught that, too? Seriously, Raya and the Last Dragon easily became one of my favorite Disney movies. I grew up loving Disney princesses and action movies, so I loved seeing those come together. Raya and Namaari are two of my favorite Disney princesses. I love that Raya is allowed to give into her rage instead of always being rational. She’s reasonably hurt. And I love that Namaari’s trying to do what’s best for her people and she feels the weight of all of her actions on her shoulders. The shot of her back to Raya before their final showdown is the perfect physical depiction. And even still, she has one more moment of weakness when she’s left to save the world. This movie is great. I want more of these characters. Fun fact: Dep La means “beautiful”, so they spend the entire movie calling each other beautiful. Some enemies. Definitely down to see you do Cruella. I’ve seen it twice, so I’m curious to see your thoughts. #bingers
