Honestly every song on absolution is strong. There's the standouts, like sing for absolution, Stockholm syndrome, etc. But there's also super just solid songs, like thoughts of a dying athiest or small print. Easily my favorite muse album (with origin of syndrome in a very close second)

The way they sing is similar in certain songs; some of the music can be similar (old muse) They both murder falsettos and they have weird guitar sounds and trems, the way they write music as well is similar. They have many similarities (at least used to), but they definitely shouldn't be confused with eachother lol people who can't tell the difference are pretty dumb, musically speaking Muse share similarities to many bands like Queen, Pink Floyd, dream theater, and I guess Steve vai in a way They used to have more similarities to Radiohead but the way I see it, they're worlds a part but still in the same solar system They most definitely didn't copy Radiohead though lol they clearly have MANY influences Both bands are up there with my favorites of all time .

My ranking: 1. Black Holes and Revelations (perfect Muse mix) 2. Origin of Symmetry (rocks) 3. Absolution (all tracks are just great) 4. Simulation Theory (the best songs on this are so amazing) 5. Showbiz (first half is great, second half is very bland) 6. The 2nd Law (some songs are very bland, but I really like the other songs) 7. Resistance (basically the same as T2L, but it doesn’t have Supremacy) 8. Drones (it’s pretty good, but I just don’t love any of the songs)

The Resistance is my favorite Muse album of the ones I've heard. My mom bought a few Muse CDs in the 2000s, and I rediscovered them later. The Resistance had some of the most interesting album artwork I'd ever seen so of course I opened it up to listen to it immediately. It was captivating to listen to, the orchestral and piano elements blended with the heavier rock elements. The lyric booklet was full of interesting art and design, made of some strange paper, like crisp dollar bill texture. I think part of the reason I love it so much is getting to hold it in my hands and get swept up in the spectacle of the sound.

It’s honestly one of their best records if not their best. Every song on there is fantastic and sure, maybe the quality dips a bit near escape and overdue but those aren’t bad songs. And hate this and I’ll Love You is such an amazing album closer! Plus, the bonus track version has Spiral static as the final song which personally I think was made to follow up HTAILY, the nighttime crickets chirping at the beginning of that song and silence only to re reawakened by well, spiral static. Truly one of the greatest albums ever written.

Jonah Louque Escape is actually one of my favorite Muse songs, so I'm gonna have to disagree with you there, but other than that I completely agree. Muse has always been fantastic with album closers (except maybe The Void, I'm not too crazy about that one), and HTAILY is just such a perfect end to Showbiz. It's very unlike other Muse closers, which are usually very theatrical and, for lack of a better word, epic- but it's in line with the rest of Showbiz, and I don't really know what else to say about it. I just love this album and I feel like it doesn't get as much credit as it deserves.

Carson Bishop tbh people say the lyrics to escape are cheesy but I personally think they’re quite well written, I know it sounds like I don’t like the song, but this couldn’t be farther from the truth. The backing vocals throughout the track are fantastic, I’m sure there’s something I’m forgetting but Escape is a fantastic muse track along with everything on Showbiz.

In my personal taste: 1. Absolution - I'm sure that for most Muse fans that these top 3 choices are in the top 3 in some order. but, i feel like this album flows better start to finish than OoS, that and it has my favorite song (stockholm syndrome) in it. i love the tough feeling of this, perfectly heavy laced with memorable riffs 2. Origin of Symmetry - narrowly second, some of the most... unique sounding songs ever. i dont think i'll ever hear anything like it again. 3. Black Holes and Revelations - It is a fun album. I honestly dont care for Soldier's Poem, but the rest are bangers. if you go look up some instrumental versions of some of the songs on this album, you'll hear all the small little things that round these songs out that are usually covered up by the vocals. 4. Simulation Theory - This one being so high might throw people off, but as a person who listened to synthwave genre of music long before this, there were songs that perfectly captured what i imagined Muse's style into that. I.E. The Dark Side is basically an OoS lovechild, meanwhile other songs like Blockades, The Void and Algorithm all are so great. 5. Drones - When this came out, i loved it to bits, since then, it's still great BUT, some of the songs just dont appeal to me anymore. I am not a huge fan of Queen, which might be odd for a Muse fan to say, so songs like Defector rub me the wrong way. Although, The Handler, Reapers, Dead Inside and The globalist are still cycled through my playlist often. I loved the back to heavy sound with it, but to me, where this album lacks is the experimentation, i feel like this concept album is a bit too one-note for me. 6. Showbiz - Half this album is god tier, the other half is... meh. granted i grade Muse songs in their own league compared to other bands, so a bad Muse song is still a good song. 7. The 2nd Law - i really appreciate what they did here. There are some real killer songs on this. but, just not anything really too outstanding. Good stuff, just not Top tier. 8. The Resistance - I don't like putting this at the bottom, but something has to be bottom. There's a few songs on this album that bring it down here, I belong to you/ United states of eurasia. otherwise, i love the Exogenesis Symphony and other various tracks. If you're looking for some good prog rock stuff to check out, I'd suggest Porcupine Tree and The Pineapple thief

Im so glad you mentionned Thoughts of a dying atheist, and that you ve chosen it to show the absolution album cover. For a long time i felt like i was the only one to love it, i mean it s my favorite song ever, and i ve always been confused why i was the only one to think so, but for a few months now i ve been seeing more and more people refering to it as their fav song, which makes me feel happy but im still confused why it does not get more votes on by request shows etc. Very very very underrated song, even the title itself is mind blowing.

I love every thing Muse has done, and continues to do, but unarguably, Absolution is the greatest album they have ever done. Butterflies and Hurricanes is brilliant, Thoughts of a Dying Atheist is so complex and vulnerable, and the entire album has a perfect theme and concept that follows through the start to the very last note. It is their opus. Perfection.

Absolution (another masterpiece, every song is amazing) 10/10 3. Black Holes and Revelations (can definitely see why a lot have it has their favorite, fantastic) 9/10 4. Resistance (love the spacey and classical vibe to it and Unnatural Selection is a masterpiece) 8.5/10 5. The bands i had entire tumblr blogs and walls of my room dedicated to at one point. They will always be my favorite bands, and nothing can top the emotional connection i have with them. Drones is a really good album to me. The sound of the songs are very consistent on that album, which may make it a little boring but to me it makes the listening process feels like a long meditation without disturb.

Personal list: 1. Absolution All songs feel like different ways of apocalypse, either at a personal, social or global scale, I love the guitar here, the lyrics kill me and Time is Running Out is a banger. 2. Black Holes & Revelations This is an inspirational album personally, Kinghts of Cydonia came while I was writing a book steampunky-cowboy themed and that was amazing. Hoodoo and many other tracks made me admire them more and more. 3. The Resistance I Belong To You is my favourite song, but the exogenesis symphony is an amazingly done long track, Uprising is a personal hymn and as a hole the orchestral vibe and some similar parts to queen were just too amazing to me. 4. Origin Of Symmetry Didn't understand why it was so beloved until I heard Darkshines, then gave a try to the full album and Micro Cuts made me realize how amazing Matt's voice is, while New Born and Space Dementia taught me how important piano and guitar can be. Still don't love Citizen Erased, but great rocky album. 5. Showbiz The first was the last for me. Unintended was a song that made me cry in a very Radiohead-like way, Showbiz is my all-time workout song and the style of it feels like the true meaning of alternative rock for me. The piano in Sunburn is stunning and Muscle Museum was my favourite song for months. 6. Drones I'm a fan of metal, some hard songs here are pretty good but between this and Showbiz there's a huge gap. The best guitar solo though is here and I love it, but overall the album lacks some of that attracting factor to me. 7. The 2nd law Survival is one of my favourite songs, truly motivating, while Supremacy is amazing, I love that violin, but after that there's nothing that I truly enjoy and I've been giving it a try, but some dubstep strange songs I just can't help. 8.Simulation Theory Same as Coldplay's Music of the spheres, the modernistic sound that people defend as experimental is just annoying at this point and I can't hear anything out of this electronic pop.

H-h-how could you place drones as low as 6th And showbiz as 5th... drones is such an amazingly heavy album and so different from the others with a great message and showbiz is so emotional and diverse, so raw and natural... I just love both of them but I think it's just my personal preference for more heavy songs.

I would have swapped OOS and Absolution. Citizen Erased is definitely my favourite song atm over all and the rest of the songs are all really good as well but Citizen Erased really is amazing.
