I absolutely adore this and wish, just wish, people would stop trying to change the elderly and their ways!! Nothing but respect for them!! The younger generations are so disrespectful and high-handed in their mistreatment of the senior population...sorry to whine but there it is...thanks so much for this, a fantastic video!

I had fantastic childhood holidays with my aunt in Frinton. going to the beach, beach huts and the greensword. My aunt said the lady in the brown coat standing opposite the gates at 18:25 was a nurse who followed the soldiers up the beaches on DDay and felt that the film ridiculed her just for being elderly and a bit forgetful. Its one thing for the film to highlight the quirkiness of the place but it also ridicules the elderly in a way that appears a little mean to me.

I don't think it is intending ridiculing her, I think they're just showing her as a local character and an illustration of an aging local population. However those scenes do make me feel uneasy as they linger on her more than necessary and I'm not sure they would be missed if they'd been cut completely. I totally disagree with your assertion that this film "ridicules the elderly in a way that appears a little mean"

What a nice lady running the shop at around 17 minutes. So candid of her to tell a BBC man that yes...she had been in love...still was...with a certain man.

I wish the BBC would bring back Wonderland, or at least put all the old episodes up on iPlayer.

This show was not representative of frinton at all. Yes there is a large population of elderly people but that doesn't make it 'curious'. They focused on a few of the more quirky people, of which every town has, and showed none of the younger population. It looks like it was edited purely to make frinton out to look like a strange place, which it isn't.

Exactly. I've lived in Frinton nearly my entire life and yes, there are quite allot of elderly people, but there are still younger people as well. And I agree, it's not a curious place. It's exactly the same as any other seaside town you know.

Iv live and worked in the area for 60 years this documentary makes it look they are all busybodies and eccentrics, but you would find people like that in any seaside retirement areas. the beaches are beautiful and in the summertime you cant park because of the amount of day trippers that come, and now people of all ages are moving to the area from London to get away from the rat race and to the lovely seaside fresh air.

I lived in Frinton as a kid and it was brilliant. Golf club , Tennis club and the beach perfect. We moved from there back to London. I was devastated but maybe for the best. It's a nice place to visit. But as an adult it could probably be a bit weird judging from this.

While this might be an entertaining watch, it’s a terrible, judgemental, and one-sided documentary about Frinton-on-Sea and the people who live there. The makers of this documentary appear to have intentionally set out to make the town and its residents appear odd. The camera positioning during interviews is particularly calculated, using a wide-angle lens to keep the person being interviewed in shot while not even having the camera pointing directly at them. You can see this with most of the interviews, where the person is positioned to the extreme left or right of the frame. I suspect some of these people didn’t even know the camera was rolling at times. Additionally, while there are a significant number of benches along the seafront, they chose to use a lens with a large focal length, which causes significant perspective compression and makes everything look closer together, again in an attempt to sell how odd the place is. This is bad filmmaking. The shots of the empty beaches are also complete bullshit. Thousands flock to the beaches during the summer season, and you can hardly move. I could barely get out of my road due to the traffic during the summer months, yet they chose to film it out of season, at a time during which the beaches are empty - just like they would be at any seaside resort. Are there some odd characters? Sure, but that’s no different from any other town in the country. If you go looking for it, you’ll find it everywhere. They also completely avoided the younger population in the town. The only young people they showed were the yobs shouting “wanker” at the railway crossing. Again, you’ll get that anywhere you go in this country. The BBC should be ashamed of this.
