On the rock side John Fogerty (CCR) was there. Just because you object to a war or something doesn't mean you object to those that are doing the work. Toby Keith is another. He objected being over in Iraq/Afganistan, yet he is widely known to deeply support the troops. It comes down to the old line, don't hate the player, hate the game. These artists didn't hate the people invloved, quite the contrary, they loved and supported them, yet they hated the issue at hand.

It would surprise a lot of younger people to know that wearing black wasn’t all that common 20-30 years ago. Now it’s a staple for everyone. Back then, it was more the realm of motorcycle gangs and such. But it was also Johnny Cash’s signature look. This song’s closer to 50 years old, so he really stood out back then. Takes guts - why its one of my favorite songs ..it made me question my own beliefs and changed my mind on some things.

It's just about impossible to overstate the influence of Johnny Cash, from the early days of rock and roll, to the heyday of outlaw country to his last albums with Rick Ruben (yes the Rap/hip hop mega producer) . From silly songs "A boy named sue" & "One piece at a time" to Social commentary "Man in Black" , his gospel songs (albums) "The Man Comes Around" , Folsom Prison Blues (I shot a man in Reno just to watch him die). Music, Movies and Television a 60 year plus career Legend only begins to cover it. His cover of the song "Hurt" is his farewell , its a powerful song but the video turns he emotional impact way up. Trent Reznor the original singer (and songwriter I believe) has said this is a Johnny Cash song now.

In those days it was the fashion to wear bright, colorful clothing, leaving black colored clothes for fancy evening wear or funerals.
