Just picture a 6 ft something tall guy walk over, stand right next to you for like 15 seconds, and as soon as you turn to ask what he needs he breaks out with "I'm a barbie girl". I could not stop laughing.

The funny thing being, the whole song was supposed to be a comment on commercialism. However with the video and it ultimately ending up more aimed at children, it ended up giving almost the opposite message - or at least it got buried under superficial bops (as it is deffinately a bop). I can't remember if any of their other songs were the same. Overanalysing just a little on this one. :) It's really just a simple silly pop song from the 90s. It was meant as a comment on commercialism and in no way affiliated with the actual doll. Quite the opposite as it ended in Mattel filing a lawsuit against the group. 3 of the 4 members are Danish (the woman in Norwegian), so as a Dane myself, I grew up with this music. Aqua was HUGE in the 90s - they were one of the biggest success stories in Danish music at the time as they were among the short list of artists to "make it" internationally. (I believe their debut album has sold around 14 million records world wide) If I remember correctly they've released 3 full lenght albums and their "sound" is very different on each. This single (and their biggest hit) is from their debut album along with other big hits like Doctor Jones, Roses Are Red, My Oh My, Turn Back Time and Candyman. Their second album included hits like Cartoon Heroes, Around the World, Bumble Bees an We Belong to the Sea. The band broke up in the early 2000s but got back together after a while and released some new music - I recommend checking out Back to the 80s, My Mamma Said, Playmate to Jesus.

Watching your reaction, I do think you were realizing what the song was trying to show, and I am glad for. The way Ken said his lines, compared to how Barbie said her lines, and so many of the small details. Even pointing out that of course a guy will tell a girl that "I'm always yours", as a lie to get into a girls pants. The materialism, sexualization, sexual harassment, treating women as dumb or as dolls to play with. And yes, how men treat women.
