This was soon after his wife committed suicide. His song watching airplanes is really deep too. My dad listened to Gary Allen continuously as he was secretly dying from cancer. Gary Allen will always hold a special place with me

Watching Airplanes is great, but also because his wife was an airline stewardess, which is why that and another song reference airplanes, they were about her.

He has one of those raspy voices I just love. My favourite songs of his are: Songs About Rain, Highway Junkie, Man of Me, Nothin' On But the Radio, Drinkin' Dark Whiskey, Like it's a Bad Thing, Nickajack Cave, Wine Me Up, Quarter in My Pocker, etc... It's a shame he sings so much ballady stuff, coz I love his early bluesy/stompy/honky-tonk songs - that's what really got me hooked on him.

"No Regrets" kills me just about every time. "Best I Ever Had" does too. I got all his CD's, and they get HEAVY play just because the songs are relatable and are so good! I've been pushing to get his songs played by various reactors, and some have done his songs, but not enough do. Highly under-rated artist, and deserves a lot more airtime than the pop-country that gets played nowadays.

@SilverbladeDagger4 жыл бұрын
First off, thank you, thank you, thank you! 3 days in a row of Gary Allen is awesome! Keep it up, you got some more great songs of his to listen to! Secondly, I told you yesterday that his songs are deep and thoughtful. It takes the core of country music of "three chords and the truth", and makes it go deeper. As I mentioned in my DM on Twitter to you, he's lived most of his songs, and I detailed the story about his wife killing herself due to intense migraines and depression, which left him and his daughter to struggle with the grief and the many questions that come with that. You can see various perspectives of his life in each album of his, so you have the before his wife died, during the grief stage of her death, and then the post stage where he is moving on with his life. I think the song "No Regrets" is probably the most touching song relating to that. "Life Ain't Always Beautiful" is pretty much during the grief stage for him, but it does have a hopeful tone to it. Thirdly, I have lived this song, and I used to listen to it, and a few others, on repeat every day. Won't explain how, but my reasons are similar to Gary Allen's, so there is a lot I can relate to with his situation. You'll probably want to hear it and see it again just to keep those thought processes you had in your initial reaction going. Yeah, the one woman was a soldier, but she was spending her free time getting ready to be married, which is part of the life being beautiful, and then her in her gear and going back to work was the "ain't always beautiful" part kicks in. The video has people in rough patches of life, but in the end it all works out for each character in the video. The gambler who was caught cheating and stuffed in a trunk, the kids who steal the car and happen to park at the same motel the guy in the trunk has a room where his kid is playing with cards. The showgirl who wanders the streets, gets accosted by the police, which she is then helped by the thugs that put the gambler in the trunk of the car, then the showgirl finds her way back to Gary's room. The couple getting married, where first she cleans the dress, then the shoe heel breaks, then they get married, then she is seen in her military uniform going back to being a soldier. It's all emblematic of the song, and shows how sometimes serendipity works. It's a beautiful ride as the song says. Lastly, you will want to listen to "Every Storm (Runs Out Of Rain)". It is semi-recent, but it also carries a sort of military theme in the official music video, even if the song isn't about it. I think of that song as a "part 2" of "Life Ain't Always Beautiful", and it is a much more hopeful song with a better outlook on things. Again, thank you so much for reacting to this song, been hoping you would for a long time, requested a list of Gary Allen's songs back in November in your DMs, and I figured you would enjoy them and get something out of them. Keep going down the Gary Allen playlist, you'll find a whole lot you will appreciate that will make you think, reminisce, and get you in the feels.
