Great and well thought out review Heather. As a detailer myself who's used BH for a long time, I'd love to hear your thoughts on one of my little go-to tricks of the trade, and perhaps see you test it out. Many complain about the thin foam of Auto Foam and the lack of dwell time, especially if they are a bit on a budget with low volume pressure washers and a budget foam lance etc. I do have my equipment up to snuff, but I do encounter situations where dwell time changes. It can be if the hardness of the water changes a bit, moisture, temps etc. I don't like the really thick shaving cream foams, as they really don't do anything but cling to the car, but I have found that adding a bit of a high foaming soap like MagiFoam, Chemical Guys Snow foam, or Meguiar's Ultimate Snow etc. can help a lot if dwell is a problem. It does not create a shaving cream, but it does make a foam that will easier dwell for 5 minutes. It also helps on a hot day as it becomes slower to dry. I add 30 ml of snow foam to a litre of BH mix. Give it a try, it works great.

I've never understood the obsession with wanting shaving foam levels from snow foam products. Are these people going to take a Mach 3 to their car? I'm guessing it makes for a good picture for the 'Gram, but I'd much rather have a product that works. Hi Heather, Not sure if you'll pick this up as its 3 years later but in my humble opinion pre rinsing with water doesn't make an awful lot of difference as there's instances of being advised to spray the car with the likes of a citrus prewash or BH Surfex then apply the snowfoam over the top of it ..... what's the difference as if anything you'd think a proper prewash chemical would have more of a negative effect 6:05

@@AutoCareHQ yes exactly. There’s a local detailing supplier round here who do their own snow foams, so want to give that a try
@richardborge85412 жыл бұрын
Well done comparison and video. I have long wondered whether pre-washing with snow foam was worth the effort, product, and water. After watching FDC on the cleaning ability of these products, some of my concerns were confirmed. All of the pH-neutral soaps had little to no cleaning effect in a contact-less format. The high pH products seemed to "melt" the grime allowing it to be washed away. Bilt Hamber won the FDC shoot-out which brought me to your review. Now back to your findings: I am struck by how much grime is left untouched by these products (kind of depressing). I suspect that in order to attack stuck on grime, solvent properties are required rather than relying on surfactant alone (hence the high pH). It also appears that the contactless product supports spraying with a spray bottle whereas snow foam requires a foam cannon (per BH website). This is an important issue for me since these products are very expensive in the states and I would prefer to "spritz" it on rather than wasting loads of product in a foam cannon for a somewhat marginal benefit. Any thoughts on product application versatility? Thx
@Tim955w3 жыл бұрын
Very very interesting, clearly at this time of year any differences are subtle. Maybe its as you say winter / summer related, at least this stops me rushing out to buy some when i already have plenty of Auto Foam left. I used both the other day to test. I used touchless first at 4% pir and found it masked/degraded the existing wax on the bonnet when I rinsed. I used autofoam at 4% pir as a second snowfoam, however the autofoam seemed to bring back the waxes to their natural water repelling abilities. For sure I would agree with you - both work great as a pre wash however the autofoam gets my vote as it doesn't seem to mask/degrade existing wax

Great video. I was just about to try the touchless as my auto foam is running low, but I don't think I will bother. The other thing that I find interesting is the debate on pre-rinsing before snow foam application. I have seen several videos recently that say no, as it can dilute the product. I tried it several times dry and I don't agree, especially in the UK with a winter buildup. I think you need to pressure wash all the heavy nasty stuff first, let it drip dry as much as is practical, then apply snow foam. No snow foam in the world can dissolve huge chunks of dried on mud and road grime from dry effectively. The foam deals with the majority of the rest prior to contact wash.

I don't really snow foam that much anymore as I feel the pre-rinse is the most important part of the safe wash. I do use APC in a sprayer for the pre-wash. If I snow foam and rinse I use a high alkaline snow foam and don't worry about the LSP as it will be going back on. I do use my foam canon to spray GT One Shampoo on the car to make the contact wash as safe as possible. I don't think Touch-less is any different, BH main disadvantage is the lack of cling on their snow foams. Thanks for doing a good video.

The advantages of Touchless are that it rises better and has anti-corrosion inhibitors, but with the same cleaning power as Autofoam. To me this is a major advantage, especially cleaning motorcycles as you cannot always guarantee that you can rinse the product off from all the nooks and crannies. Autofoam is highly alkaline, just smell it, and I wouldn't want that dwelling on my bike.
@AutoCareHQ3 жыл бұрын
That ability to rinse under low pressure is definitely a perk on a motorcycle. The pH of auto foam doesn't worry me much though, it's still non-caustic and was less aggressive on the paint protection compared to touch-less despite having a higher pH

Pre wash is better if it isn't super thick from my experience, used quite a few different foams and frankly BH has been the best, a dry, clingy foam isn't going to be pulling away the dirt anywhere near as well, so for me the fact it isn't any thicker is only a positive as it shows they've not tried to go for the instagram market at the expense of performance. Frankly, Auto Foam is cheaper, and does just as good of a job so I'll be sticking with that, though the Touch Less does seem to generally be a stronger cleaner but it's a small difference.
@AutoCareHQ3 жыл бұрын
I agree with you there, thicker snow foams aren’t that useful as most of the product isn’t touching the surface! The only time I think it’s beneficial is if it helps with the dwell time significantly 😊

two surprises for your results 1. not actually quite potent prewash. I use BH AF a lot and for protected car I can prewash almost all the film. Like, I find just a shy of dirt on the bottom in rinse bucket after a hands wash. 2. I use it on summer waxes like zymol range but also known short-runners like souveran and cannot see the impact. Like souveran did 4 washes and this is a wax where durability you count in days ;) and adeddnum - AF works better if you rinse, not foam. I've got a foam gun but tend to use it in a hand sprayer. Cost effective, easier to control PIR, even faster, cleans better.

FYI, in order to get the best performance with ANY touchless soap, it is recommended that the nozzle tip of the pressure washer be held NO MORE than 6 inches from the surface of the paint. Reason for this is the pressure from the H2O is acting like a wash mitt, and causing friction to occur between the dirt molecules, soap, and the H2O molecules, thus removing them from the paint. Your wasting your time by just spraying rinse H2O from 2 feet away and expecting any good result. Also, the nozzle tip should be as close to 90 degrees from the surface of the paint. Hope this helps.

First time viewer on your channel and very impressed by your methodology and review. I have used Auto Foam in the past, ran out recently and bought Touch-Less. My comment is purely anecdotal and I think I was overdosing and had a higher than 4% PIR but through my gun it appeared to be significantly thicker foam than Auto Foam two weeks ago, same gun same settings same mix ratio and removed more RTF to the point that it didn't really need an additional wash. I found it to be much more effective on the wheels, will have a look at optimum no rinse as well so thanks for highlighting that product. Looking in the background glad it's not just me that has more car products than Halfords!

Hi Heather, one thing you’ve highlighted is that a snow foam can be alkaline these days. P21S was the first “detailing” wax (non-halfords) I bought back in early 2006. You had to use ph neutral on those sorts of products or they would quickly degrade. With today’s sealants, coatings and sprays that are much more chemically resistant, it makes little difference if a prewash is alkaline. It can actually be beneficial and bring back beading. This PH neutral rule is from a different era of products. It’s changed so much in the last 8-10 years. I’ve also never had any issues with rinsing AutoFoam or any type of prewash or shampoo. Plus rinsing isn’t an issue as you follow with a contact wash.

I don’t think that. If you watch the previous video then you’ll see that I pre rinse before snow foaming, like I said, it was just to avoid arguments in the comments!

@@AutoCareHQ Sorry! I should have included a time stamp here for reference. I watched the pre-wash video. Loved it. My comment was directed to all the people you mention at 2:20. Obviously you've had some comments in that pre-wash video about the PIR on a rinsed car. I don't agree with those at all. Love the content, really great stuff. Keep up the good work.

Oh god I’m sorry I thought it was a dig 😂 yeah it was definitely a big debate in the comments of that video! I know Gilly_Wash did a post recently on Instagram comparing rinsing first vs applying the product dry and it definitely looked more effective after a rinse there too! Thanks very much for watching the videos 😊

Already an Autofoam user - went to buy Touchless from my normal supplier but apparently the last Touch less has just been purchased...... Managed to grab a jerrycan of touchless and now awaiting my car to get dirty enough to give it a proper test. Like you I am still wondering where it fits... Could it be that is sugar based and has lest chemicals than Autofoam... I really just don't know.

Their contactless should possibly be marketed as contact wash to follow auto foam as neither remove all the dirt Autofoam first then contact would surely remove all the muck!

like everything its clever marketing. and if anyone complains the company has a million and 1 reasons its nothing to do with their product its the person using it!

Not a convincing difference to choose touchless over autofoam. John from fdc also as the same opinion as you I think. Anyways nice content.

Yep can’t see much of a reason to spend the extra couple of pounds on touch-less really

The higher the PH the lower bite it has the lower the ph the more bite it has have a look at the online ph table
@AutoCareHQ Жыл бұрын
The higher the pH, the stronger an alkaline it is. The lower the pH the stronger an acid is. The strongest chemicals are at the both extremes of the pH scale

Touch-less is basically pointless then!! Why create a product that is worse than your previous one and more expensive 😂

I can’t see many advantages at the moment tbh!

I go with a good pre wash then snow foam, Make's the whole wash process Quicker. ( But! that is on my car, and other opinion may very)

This style of testing is extremely inaccurate, how did you manage to measure 5% PIR in a trigger spray bottle? And the cotton pad swipe thing doesn’t work either
@AutoCareHQ3 жыл бұрын
5% PIR in a spray bottle is just 5% of product diluted in water 😂 The cotton swipe test and the pics of the car after drying are the only way I can think of to test this on camera 🤷♀️

The market for detailing products is very saturated, that does not help in myself and others in making a confident purchase as I’ve been endlessly product hopping. I can’t thank you enough for the professional reviews of each product! 🤍
